I have dialup and need written instructions on how to replace the heater defrost 242044113. I cannot view video on dialup.
Answer Hello Neil,
Unplug the unit from the wall outlet and remove the shelving from the freezer side and remove the rear wall of the freezer compartment, you will now need to VERY CAREFULLY remove the screws holding the evaporator coils to the rear of the compartment. Remove the two aluminum straps holding the heater to the evaporator coil. DO NOT BEND THE FREON LINES ANY MORE THAN ABSOLUTLY NECESSARY! If the Freon line cracks and the Freon comes out, the unit will no longer operate properly. Of course the heater will have to be unplugged from the harness and it will be loose. Install the new part in the reverse order.
My system works fine for a few days then the evaporator freezes up and then both side won't cool properly. What you think it may be?
Answer Hello Miguel. You will need to test the defrost heater 242044113 and thermostat 5303918214. They should read closed for continuity when cold. If they are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer 5303918340. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
