GE Washer whdsr316goww. Trying to remove timer knob. Do not see plastic clip. Appears to have metal spring clip. Have control panel open but cannot remove timer knob. Have the metal clip slid off knob towards the timer but still cannot remove knob. How can we remove this knob so it can be replaced?
Answer Hello, according to the diagram provided you will see there is a small plastic clip WH1X2117 that is holding the knob on. The knob is held on with a plastic clip behind it. Use needle nose pliers to get the clip off, the knob will then come off, put the new on one, put the clip back on and you are all set. Here is a link to the parts diagram: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5230173, refer to clip #9. Hope this helps!

Knob to set cycle just spins, does not change cycle. Can turn ring under it to change cycle. Do I need just knob, or part knob goes into
Answer Danny, You should only need the timer knob clip WH1X2117 to repair your washer. The clip can become "weak" and not retain the knob on the timer shaft properly." To remove the control timer: Disconnect power. Using a fl at blade screwdriver, remove the spring clip that attaches the timer knob to the timer shaft. Pull the knob and dial straight out from the timer". While you have the knob and dial off, it's a good idea to lightly lube ("vaseline" works well)the metal timer shaft at both ends, next to the plastic timer body and manipulate the shaft in and out several times to work the lubricant into the stops in the timer mechanism, then install the dial and knob using the new clip.
I cannot turn the timer knob at all by hand. Do I need a new timer or just the knob and clip?
Answer Hello Mary. Usually to repair the issue you are having, you will need to order and replace the timer knob WH1X2706 on the unit.
