I recently replaced the defrost element in my freezer and after that I notice my fresh food fridge is not cooling. What can be the problem?
You will want to make sure that when the defrost heater was replaced that the coils were completely defrosted. If not it would cause the unit to not cool in the refrigerator section properly. If they were then you will want to check to make sure that the coils are not frosting up again. If so then the defrost timer would most likely be the cause of failure.
In regards to GE part no. wr9x569,can you tell me where the off position is,for example 12:00 6:00
We do not have information as to where the off position would be at. This would all vary model to model depending on the set up and configuration of the thermostat.
I have an old 1992 GE Monogram. The freezer works fine, but the refrigerator side won't get any colder than 50 degrees. I've cleaned the coils and checked for overloading, but still no change.
Is it the thermostat?
It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
Replaced the Defrost Heaters with thermostat in freezer about 1 week ago, fridge was working fine for 1 week, no fresh foods compartment getting warmer and water dripping off of power source coming out of freezer to temp. control. The walls of the fresh food compartments have condensation on them. Freezer still working fine. What could the problem be?
Answer Martin, First make sure you did not dislodge the air circulation blocks between the evaporator coils and walls, also check the air return tunnel opening in the wall between the two compartments. Make sure the doors close and seal to the front of the cabinet flange, and the refrigerator damper control is opening and closing when the knob is turned. Lastly check and make sure there are no articles hanging over the shelves and the refrigerator compartment is not "overloaded". Thanks
1. This ref temperature is swinging between 30F and 40F. Is this normal? What is normal?
2. The evap has no ice on it. It is covered about 2/3 with
a light frost with the compressor running. Is this normal or is the system a little low on freon?
Answer Hello Stev,
As per the engineers, there is an approximate 10° sway in normal operation. In other words, this is considered normal operation. The frost pattern sounds like it is running normal also. The frost pattern will run most of the way down, but if too much freon is injected into the unit, the cold side line will sweat on the outside of the unit causing a puddle in the floor.
My side by side refrigerator, stopped cooling on the refrig. side.I removed the cover inside of freezer and found the coils frozen over. I unplugged the refrig and used a hairdryer to thaw out the coils. I replaced cover and it worked fine for about one week. Now I notice that the refrig side is getting warmer. The freezer side seems to be to cold even though it is at the lowest temp. setting. (ice cream is hard as a bone) What could the problem be?
Answer Hello Dwill, you are experiencing a defrost issue. The defrost system consist of three components, a timer, defrost thermostat and heater. You will want to test the defrost thermostat and heater and make sure they're giving you a close circuit reading. If both these components of the defrost system test good, the only part left will be the timer WR9X489. The defrost heater comes with a new defrost thermostat: WR51X442, it's recommended that you replace both components if either of these components have failed. Hope you find this information helpful.
