I have this draining issue also. Do I need any special tools to take off the back panel in the freezer? Is the evaporator coils behind the rear panel of the freezer? Do I need to turn off the refrigerator to I do this repair? When the water melts from the drain where will the water go, and how will I know it is resolved?

Answer Hello Paul,
You will need a 1/4 inch hex headed socket or nut driver and a pair of needle nosed pliers. You will probably need a hair dryer to thaw out the ice to even make this possible, but the easiest way to do this is after the unit has been unplugged and the doors opened long enough for the unit to be at room temperature. You see, the tube will be frozen in down low enough to really cause you problems getting the old one out. Where it is frozen in is not an area that is easy to access with the hair dryer.
On this particular job you may need to remove the center divider. his is the case, you will need the unit at room temperature and you should take pictures with your cell phone as you disassemble. The re-assembly is very particular in the sense that if you leave out one little piece of insulation, you will have condensation and frosting issues.
The evaporator coils are behind the rear wall inside the freezer compartment. You definitely need to unplug the unit before you begin unless you enjoy electrical shocks. The ice you melt should find its' way to the defrost drain pan underneath the unit. If you can pour a small amount of water in the drain and it runs into the pan at the bottom it is working as designed.
If you just need to clean the debris out of the line, you can chase the drain with a piece of weed eater line about 8 feet long. I have found this to be easier with the square line since you can grasp it to twist it easier than the slick stuff. This is necessary when the line hits a corner. When this occurs, you can twist the line while pushing it and it will go around the corners much easier.

Answer Kath, You will need a long flexible tube and hot water and towels. You'll need to remove the evaporator cover(back wall of the freezer compartment), and check the bottom of the pane under the coils, and remove any ice build up with the hot water. If the water does not drain on it's own, you will need to take the flexible tubing, insert it into the opening in the center of the pan, and slowly, carefully push the tube and and through the drain until any clogs and debris pushes out at the other end. Refrigerator has water inside, either in crispers or on floor. I suspect the drain is clogged, but dont know where its located. Help!

Answer Hello Louise. The drain hole is located inside the freezer behind the back freezer wall. It is under the evaporator coils. You will need to use hot water and a turkey baster to clear out the line. Hope this helps.
