Very loud, irritating squeeling coming from the dryer, particularly with full loads. Squeeling also occurs with light loads but is less loud. Is it possible that replacing the belt can remedy this? Thanks.
Answer Hello Miki,
The squealing is the belt slipping. The noise is caused by the drum putting up opposition to turning. You will either need the rear drum bearing kit WE25M40, the front bearing WE3M26 and glides WE1M504, idler puller WE12X83and, because of the wear on the belt WE12M29 because of the slippage, you might consider changing it, too.
Do they have that belt or a replacement belt?
Answer Kansas, the replacement drive belt is part number WE12M29. Thanks!
Our dryer smelled like a burning belt, so I checked the belt. It measured about 90". Is that enough stretch that it would be the cause of the smell?
Answer Hello David,
The belt in a dryer will normally not stretch. If it stretches, it is about to break. There are strings made into the belt to prevent stretching. If the belt is slipping, it is doing so because something inside the unit is opposing the turning of the drum. This will be the idler pulley WE12X83, the glides (WE1M1067 X 2),(WE1M504 X 2),and front bearing assembly WE3M26, or the rear drum bearing assembly WE25M40.
My dryer turns on, push the start button and just clicks!
Answer Hello Brian,
This sounds like the motor winding is bad. Try this, open the door and hold the door switch in. Now get someone to push the push-to-start button while you spin the drum. If this starts the unit, the motor WE17X10010 is the problem.
How do I change the belt?

I replaced the belt on my dryer and it worked fine for a load. The next load it snapped again. Am I doing something wrong?
Answer Hello Sean. Make sure the belt WE12M29 is installed correctly and the drum is not dragging and the pulleys are good. Hope this helps.

My 8-year old GE dryer squeals when started, but quiets down quickly once it is warmed up. I need to check the pulley, belt & felt seals. Can you provide a step-by-step "how to" for checking these items? I'm not sure how to begin. Thank you.
Answer Hi Bella. This reply is the 2nd of a 2- part question previously answered today. The G.E. repair manual will walk you through this. Part # is WX10X116. The front drum / panel felt seals are part # WE3M26.Front drum bearing - Front drum bearing for GE made dryers. Glides are not included. For white glide useWE1M504. For green glide use ( No longer red ) use WE1M1067. 2 of each are required. Thank you.
