My dryer was making a speaking noise that got louder, then it was drying and made a loud thumping noise and stopped working. What could it be?

When the dryer is turned on and has run for a short time you can start to smell a rubber smell. I was wondering if the belt is in need of replacement.

When dryer is running with a load, it makes a thumping noise like there is a pair of shoes in it. When you take half the load out it quiets somewhat.

The dryer is making squeaking noise. My wife and I debated the characteristics of a squeak and squeal and it is definitely a squeak. I don't think it is a slipping belt. Sounds more like a metal on metal. The dryer was taken completely apart to thoroughly clean. The same problem after putting back together. The squeak only happens during part of a load. Definitely more frequent and intense at the end of the drying cycle. The size of the load does not seem to matter. are there places that can be lubricated without getting it on the clothes?

Yes I checked and the drum is tight, won't move at all. Don't know what to do or what that means.

My dryer was working fine(Iwas using it at the time). One load finished and I went to start another load. It only makes a weird "buzzing" sound when you turn the start knob. I tried holding in the button, turning the start knob and turning the drum. That did not work. Could it possibly be the drive belt? Nothing unusual prior to it before it stopped working. Thanks.

Very loud, irritating squeeling coming from the dryer, particularly with full loads. Squeeling also occurs with light loads but is less loud. Is it possible that replacing the belt can remedy this? Thanks.

Our dryer smelled like a burning belt, so I checked the belt. It measured about 90". Is that enough stretch that it would be the cause of the smell?
