I have an older model Hotpoint dryer. It eventually stopped blowing hot air. It still works fine except for that. I was told it was either the Heating element or the thermal fuse. I have no clue to where they are even located. In lamen terms.
When you lift the main top, should be 2 screw in the door opening holding top in place or spring clips in between the main top and front panel, the heating element is located at the back part of the drum. You would have to disassembly the unit to see the element. The thermal fuse is on the heater housing in the same location at the back of the drum.
I have two elements and three terminals. Where do I connect them?
Answer Hello Jeff,
The white wire goes to the inner element, blue to the outer element and the other terminal goes to a common terminal.
Hi, Our dryer is stilling drying on cool. When on hot, you smell something burning like dead fish. Do you have some suggestions on where to start to fix the dryer? Thank you, Denise
Answer Hello Denise,
You will need to open the unit to see if something has crawled inside it. Open the door and feel along the top edge of the main front where the door strikes. There are two Phillips head screws that thread straing up that, when removed, allows the removal of the main top. Be sure to unplug the unit before going any further than this so you don't get an electrical shock.
How do you check the thermostat on a ge dryer?
Answer Hello Johnny. The thermostat should read closed for continuity and open when a certain temperature is reached inside the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Dryer runs but won't get warm or hot, its been sitting in a garage for a few months, wanted to get it working.
Answer Hello Ron. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter TJMA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Where is the heating element at?
Answer Hello Ray. The element on a Hot Point dryer is usually located behind the drum and would need to drum removed to access and replace the kit WE11X260. Hope this helps.
