Do I need to discharge the capacitor prior to replacing the magnitron? Where is it located? Thanks.
You should always discharge the capacitor when working on a microwave. The capacitor is located on the right side of the unit inside the cabinet next to the magnetron.
What is the proper method to replace the magnetron?
Answer Hello Mike. You need to disconnect the power and uninstall the unit. Then remove the outer cover. You will then remove the wires from the magnetron and remove the nuts securing the unit to the cabinet. Remove the old and install the new in reverse order.
Microwave quit heating. Found bad hv cap replaced it and hv transformer. Diode checked good with 120 volts applied. Magnetron reads .3 ohms and nothing to case ground. I think this reading is good but still think magnetron is bad any help appreciated.
Answer Hello John,
You will want to check the magnet on the magnetron for cracks. The .3 ohm reading is good but if there is a cracked magnet then the magnetron will read good but not work. You will also want to check the thermal fuse on the magnetron to make sure that it is good.
