All of the timers and buttons work but it started to smell like burnt wiring and no longer heated. It also made a louder corse noise. Does this sound like the magnatron?
This issue sounds like it would be caused by a bad diode or a bad transformer. You will want to check the diode for cracks or breaks and if you test it and it checks ok then the transformer is most likely bad.
I read the 1600 series can use WB27X10489. Checked to make sure and the site says its not compatible. Why?
Answer Charlotte, your model JVM1631BB004 uses magnetron part number WB27X10017. This is the magnetron called for your microwave by the manufacturer. Thanks.
I have a GE microwave oven model jvm1650wb002 that does not have power to heat. Everything else looks ok. I checked the fuse and it was ok. I replaced the HV diode but still no power but the noise has stopped when I turned the unit on. Is it the magnetron. Where is it located and how do I remove the magnetron.
To access the Magnetron, you will need to pull the unit from installation and remove the outer cabinet. Once removed the magnetron will be a square silver box with fins inside it. Check to make sure that the magnet is not cracked or broken. Also check the resistance of the magnetron which should be approximately .5 ohms of resistance.
