We are in a friends condo so dont know model number. it is a side by side model. The freezer side has frost built up on the entire back side of the freezer. The frozen items and ice in tray are staying frozen but it will not freeze water placed in the freezer. The other side if the refrigerator is not keeping food fresh or cold drinks very cold. What should I try first?
Answer Hello Ron. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
I replaced the evaporator fan motor but it is still not running. Is the fan supposed to run all the timer or is the problem the circuit board ?
Answer Jesse, You'll need to check for 13 volts DC across the red and white wires at the fan harness connector. If the voltage is present, you have a faulty fan mptor. If the voltage is not present, You have a broken wire or faulty control board WR55X10942.
What is the location of the main control board and the evap motor assembly.
Answer Hello Joseph,
The main control board is located on the back of the unit under a plate held on by screws. The evaporator is behind the wall in the freezer compartment.
Have a side by side GE. main circuit board had a blown fuse so replaced. But now the freezer works but the fridge doesn't seem to be cooling is it possible the the board is bad? Which pin on the board manages the frig part? So that I can make sure it's seated properly? When I first turned it on, after replacing board, I did feel air coming in through the vents at the top of the frig. Now I don't feel air coming through. Is there another vent somewhere else in the fridge area or is this it? One last thing, when I put the board on the lower cable was redesigned where the pins point upward vs downward (original board), would the frig not working have anything to do with the cables being pinched?
Answer Hello Rosa,
There were instructions that came with the new control board. These instructions referred to certain models having a jumper wire. You will want to check to make sure that your model is not one with the jumper wire. If the unit has a looped wire between pins 1 and 2 of the J1 connector then you would need to clip the wire. If the unit has a connector that splits to 2 wires one going to pin 1 and 1 going to pin 2 then clip the pin 2 wire. This would be for models that have an encoder board with serial number prefixes TD2, VD2, AF2, DF2, FF2, GF2, HF2, LF2, MF2, RF2 and SF2. Your model does have
Fridge is running, however not cooling as it should. Lower half seems cooler than upper. Freezer is also not keeping temp. Motherboard? easy fix or call in repair man? Appreciate direction.
Answer Hello CB,
You will want to check the freezer back wall for frost build up. If there is frost build up you will want to remove wall and do a continuity check of the defrost thermostat WR50X10068 and defrost heater WR51X10055. If either show no continuity then the part needs replaced. If they show good replace the evaporator thermistor WR55X10025 and Control board WR55X10942.
