My ice maker is producing ice but the ice is getting a "freezer burn" feel/look to it and has a chalky taste. I emptied the hopper and filled it with store bought ice. That ice took on the same characteristics as the ice produced by the ice maker. I replaced the water filter and adjusted the freezer temp in both directions. These actions did not affect the situation. The water from the door dispenser tastes ok. Any thoughts? Thank you!
Answer Pete, First thought is, Odors and taste in the ice cubes is due to: water quality, and or articles in the refrigerator or freezer transferring to the cubes by way of air circulation. Store bought ice cubes and a new filter, without a remedy, pretty much eliminates the ice maker and water supply as the culprit. You're best bet is to clean out the refrigerator and freezer, wash the interior liners, door liner and door bins, ice bin assembly and ice maker with hot, soapy water, aand thoroughly rinse with hot water.
My freezer compartment will not hold a constant temperature. It will range from 10 below to 38 above zero and it appears to cycle throught these temperatures 3 to 6 times per day. Is there a defrost timer that maybe defective that I can replace? The unit is only 8 years old
This unit does not incorporate a defrost timer. The unit uses thermistors and a control board. You will also want to check your condenser fan motor for operation and check to make sure that the condenser coils are clean. You will want to do a resistance check on the thermistors WR55X10025 which should be 2.7K at room temp. If not then you would need to replace the thermistors. If the thermistors check ok then you would need to replace the main control board WR55X10942.
I have a GE Profile PSW26SGRC SS and just recently went out. It does not cool or freeze at all. I thought the compressor or relays may be out, but I checked those and they are fine.
How do I check the board? If I need to check voltage, can you be specific on a diagram possibly, what I need to do please?
Just a few things, if it matters. A couple weeks ago, the ice maker would not work instantly. I would have to press it for at least 5-6 seconds before it would come out. Sometimes, I would have to switch it to water, then back to ice, wait 5-6 seconds and it would come out.
I also noticed a few days ago that there was a fan coming on all the time. It sounded like the fan that feeds some of the freezer air into the fridge.
Right now, nothing comes on...no selector lights on the dispenser, no cooling...the only thing that comes on are the interior lights.
It sounds like the control board is defective. You can test outgoing power to the compressor by checking J8 to Neutral and if there is not 120 vac then the control board is faulty and will need to be replaced.
