How long do I have to soak the new filter before replaing it??
Answer Hello Betty. You can use the filter out of the box. There is no need to soak the filter.
Where can I get a replacement quick connect fitting for this smartwater filter?
Answer Hello Bill,
The only place I know of to get these fittings is with the water filter GXRTQR.
When I replace the water filter do I need to turn off water supply line? I am afraid to remove the old filter until I know that water will not flow all over my kitchen. How often should I replace my filter? Thanks, Joe.
Answer Hello Joseph! No, you do not have to turn the water off to replace the filter. Per the manufacturer the water filter should be replaced at least every six months according to usage. If you do not use the ice/water much you may replace it one a year. Thanks.
Note: This question is for the older version of this part, but we thought you might still find it helpful
Is there a way to stop the water from flowing out when the filter is removed. Whenever I remove the filter I have to take everything out of the fridge and set a bucket in the bottom of the fridge to collect the water. What can I do to stop the water flow? Thanks
The water should stop flowing when the filter is removed and if it is not then the filter head seal is bad. The 2 things that you could do is replace the filter head or pull the unit out and shut the water off to the unit before replacing the filter.
Water filter motor was making a grinding noise recently so we unscrewed and screwed it back on then after a few days is made the same noise when trying to dispense water. The filter is only a few months old. Whats wrong? It's Now stopped working and its not making ice. Does the ice water pass through the filter and can you correct this?
The ice and water for the unit does pass through the filter and either the filter itself is faulty and would need to be replaced or the issue will be the filter head assembly. You would want to insert a bypass plug into the filter head and check to see if you are still getting the same noise. If not then the filter is faulty and if it is still making the noise then the issue would be the filter head assembly.
Tried to replace the water filter with a new MWF filter. Fits in snugly, and securely. About halfway through the turn, the water starts running... keeps filling up the filter until its basically blowing out the top. I untwist it and there is a *lot* of pressure buildup. Any idea whats going on?
If you get the water filter fully seated and it is spraying out of the top then the issue would be a bad seal on the water filter head. If you only put it at halfway then there is a chance for it to spray out. The pressure is built up because the pressure from the air that is not in the line has not been relieved and in order to relieve this air pressure you would need to run the dispenser and purge approximately 4 gallons of water through the dispenser.
