The fresh food section has been running too cold and freezing the food. Following other postings as to the problem, I've replaced the damper assembly and then the 2 thermostats in the refrigerator wall but it is still freezing up. What should I try next? I posted this question a few days ago but did not receive a reply.
Answer Hello Robert,
If there is frost developing in the damper assembly, you should check for an air leak around the door seals and the ice door. The frost develops when room temperature air enters the unit and the humidity condenses and freezes in the damper. The most common cause of this on this design is the ice door solenoid WR62X10055 rusting and seizing, holding the ice door partially open.
I have a GE Adora Refrigerator (DSS25MSSE) that is freezing at the bottom on both sides but NOT getting cool enough at the top. Which damper system is the problem.
Answer Hello Thomas,
This is an air flow problem. Make sure the Freezer evaporator fan motor WR60X10307 is running and is up to speed. If you can stop it and it will not start or start up to speed without bumping the fan blade, the motor has failed. If it is operating normally you probably have a defrost issue which in indicated by a frost build-up on the rear wall of the freezer. The most common issue in this case is the heating element WR51X10055.
Refrigerator side not cooling could it be a diffuser or what is the problem?
It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
Freezer is Freezing up.
Answer Hello Scott. You will need to check the defrost heater WR51X10042, thermostat WR50X10068, thermistor WR55X10025, and the main board WR55X10942. Either can cause the unit not to defrost. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
I have a GE Monogram refrigerator. It has started making a rattling sound every 15 to 45 minutes. Do you think damper assembly (WR49X10091) is the problem? If so, what is the step by step procedure to install it.
Answer Hello Keshav,
You actually need to pull the unit out and check the fan blade and motor on the condenser fan. I have seen many times that the bearings in the motor are failing and will set up a "harmonic vibration". If the sound is coming from the inside, you need to determine if it is coming from the top of the fresh food side, (damper assembly), or behind the back panel in the freezer section, (evaporator fan/blade issue with possible frost accumulation). This should help in determining where to look for the problem.
