My dryer has been working sporadically. It will turn on and work fine most of the time, but then it will stop shortly after beginning a new cycle and make a clicking sound, two close clicks three times. There is a very slight burning smell. If I attempt to restart the cycle it will just give me the clicking and sit there. If do not turn off the unit, it will restart on its own and continue the cycle as if nothing has happened. The dryer is 6 years old, and I've yet to replace any parts, I assume I'm due for a belt, but don't just want to go spending the little money I have replacing things that aren't broken. I want to get what I need and get it fixed at a minimal cost. I disassembled the dryer and cleaned it out, removing the drum and everything. The unit has nary a speck of lint in there. The exhaust line is clean, and the outside vent is clean as well. The oddest (and most concerning thing) is that I can get it to run, but only if the lid is off. I am a DIYer so I just need guidance on what I should invest in to repair this issue. I'm not finding any info on any of the repair sites that match my circumstances so I'm finally asking this question.

My dryer was running and began making a thumping noise and humming sound. We stopped it to investigate only to have it not start again. It does turn on, but when you push the start button it only hums and the drum will not turn. We removed the top and can turn the drum while pushing the start button will get it going. Is this a sign there is a problem with the motor, or something else? Thanks.

My LG dryer which is now 13 years old sounds to be getting louder and a high-low sort of laboring motor noise can be heard. It works and dries and functions ok, but the motor is loud and vibrating. It was a quiet dryer but for about a month now, a loud, vibrating, high low, sounds is present when in use. Whether air dry or heat still loud. Also when the dryer cycle is done and turns off, after about 5 minutes, it will go on for about a minute then shut off and then will continue until I push the power button off. But I think this is a normal function.

My LG dryer is making a loud clacking noise. I cleaned and oiled the rollers and it is still doing it so I checked the belt tensioner and rotated the motor manually and could not reproduce the sound until I put it together and ran it. Also it doesn't do it right away it takes about a minute or so and I'm beginning to think its the motor. I know if I can fix this that load screaming noise coming from my wife will go away also.

My problem is my dryer shuts off after it runs for a while. It will not power back on until it cools off. When I first submitted problem we decided it was the motor but that did not fix the problem. Could it be a thermostat or control board?

My first question was about my dryer shutting of after it is in use and will not power up until it sits for while. We thought it was the motor. That did not fix it. What next?

After drying several loads my LG dryer will run for a few minutes then stop and start again after a few seconds. It also has a burning smell after stopping. What do you feel is the problem?

My dryer shuts off after it is use a while and will not turn back on until it cools. I ran it on ultra cool timed dry and it cut off durring the second hour. On air dry after it cooled it shut down on the second cylce. Is the motor bad?

Hi, my LG DLE7177RM dryer wouldn't heat. I replaced the heater unit (not even sure it was bad) and then (possibly before too) the dryer wouldn't heat on any cycle other than the timed-dry cycle (none of the pre-set cycles worked for heat). I'm thinking it's the circuit board BUT --- how often would you guess that it's the centrifugal switch thing that's on the motor (the one that slides on the shaft when the motor is running that lets the heater turn on) that's the cause of the problem?
