My ice maker is in the position that it is supposed to be in when it dumps the ice. the plastic lever is hanging and the tray is not moving back up into position. as a result, the water part that dispenses the water into the tray deposits it directly into the cube box and it leaks into the freezer and out the door. What do I do now? I can't force it into place and if I turn it on , I suppose it will dispense more water shortly. Do I need the whole assembly?

Water is leaking from the icemaker into the ice bin and causing the cubes to freeze into a block of ice. Which part do I need to replace?

Answer Frank, The icemaker would be the cause of the unit leaking water into the ice bin. The icemaker 5989JA1005D on the unit is warped and will need to be replaced.

Hi, I have a GS87T65GEF LG refrigerator-freezer. The icemaker makes ice, albeit it does not make enough ice as used to. I see that the icebin is twisted and hence, when it fills up, the water will spill into the icereservoir. Is part 5989JA1005D the part i would need to purchase to exchange or can i just exchange the icebin (where the ice is basically made)?

Answer Hello Robert, The model number listed is not showing up as a valid model number. We could not advise on the icemaker part number without this but the icemaker is what you would want to replace.

My ice maker stopped filling the ice tray with water, the tube is not filled with ice and the rest of the unit seems fuctional. I ordered a whole new ice maker and replaced it, still no water filling, not sure what to do next, any ideas? I am mad at myself for spending $106.00 on a part I really didn't need, I have an extra one now I guess. Thanks in advance!

Answer Hello Jennifer, You would want to check for power getting to the water valve when calling for water. You should receive 12 vdc to the water valve 5221JA2006D. If the water valve gets power but does not pump water then it is a bad valve. If the valve does not get voltage then it would more than likely be the control board since the icemaker has already been changed.

My icemaker has stopped cycling. It had been working normally, but now is just sitting there with the tray full and frozen, but the bucket is practically empty. The ice level arm is up. I changed the water filter about a month earlier. I had just taken the bucket out to clear an ice jam, but am not sure if it ever cycled after that. I can't even see how to remove the icemaker to "defrost" it and just check it out. Thanks.

My ice tray is warped and I have ordered a replacement part. What is the best way to exchange it out ? Can it be done without removing the unit? IF not, what disassembly is required ? Thanks for any assistance.

Answer Hello Don, If you have the complete icemaker all you will need to do is to remove the ice bin, take out the phillips head screw that is holding the icemaker bracket in place and pull icemaker out. Once out disconnect the wire harness. Plug in new icemaker and reinstall.

At first I noticed pieces of styrofoam in my ice. I removed the ice maker. I found the tray broken and a small part of the frame also broken. The part that holds the tray on the round shaft end. My question is in two parts. 1 the part # on my ice maker is 5988JA1001H. Will part # 5989JA1005D replace the one I have? They both look the same. 2 Does the ice maker kit come with the styrofoam? If not can I purchase this item?

Answer Hello Jerry, The only styrofoam that should be on the icemaker would be what the thermistor is in. The icemaker 5988JA1001H is just the mechanical part of the icemaker. The icemaker 5989JA1005D is the complete icemaker assembly.

Hi, The ice maker tray that captures the ice lies in two rails. The rail on the left side is broken. There is a plug on the rear of the rail that mates with a hole in the fridge left wall and the plug has broken off leaving the rail hanging loose. How can I repair and what parts do I need? Answer Laurence, the guide rail for the left side is part number 4974JA1064B. You'll need to remove the ice bucket, remove the screws holding the rail and remove the rail. Install in reverse order. Thanks!

Answer Hello Ken, The icemakers do not have a condensing unit on it. It uses air movement to freeze the ice and allow the thermistor to get cold enough to cycle. This icemaker 5989JA1005D would be the correct part to use if icemaker is not working.

Hi, I have a LG refrigerator, model LCS26905TT. My water going into the ice tray stops prematurely. It only runs for about 3 or 4 seconds and doesnt fill the tray all the way? I bought a whole new ice tray assembly and still did not solve the problem. Is it my valves at the bottom? I have good water pressure and my filter is not clogged.

Answer Hello Tom, The first thing that you want to do is pull the filter out and install the bypass. With bypass in cycle the icemaker and see if it fills all the way. If it does then you need a new filter 5231JA2002A. If it doesn't then you would want to replace the water valve 5221JA2006D.
