My wife alerted me that my LG front loader was leaking. After I was able to check everything out I noticed that my bearings were shot. I also noticed some sort of brown powdery substance in the back of the machine mostly where the Rotor Assembly is located. I was going to order some parts to fix my washer but I am confused as to all the parts I need. Could you tell me what is needed to fix. I planned on ordering the "Rear Drum with bearing" but I think I might need more than that because I am not sure if fixing this would also fix the leak. The water seem to be leaking around the door boot seal. And from what I have been reading the brown residue is rust from rear drum support. Should I replace it also? Thanks so much, Jeff

Answer Jeffrey, If the bearings are bad then you would definitely want to replace the rear tub AJQ35154201. The Brown residue could also be coming from the bearings. When the bearings go bad they usually have rust that goes on either side and would cause a brownish residue. You may not actually be able to tell until the unit is part.

Answer Hello Dan, You would block up the outer tub of the unit where the inner basket is hanging. Put the nut on the threading so that it does not get damaged. spray a little wd 40 or penetrating oil around shaft and tap it out.

I am replacing the rear outer drum because the seal failed and then the bearings failed. Two questions: 1) I have the rear outer drum with the inner stainless drum sitting up on blocks with the drive shaft pointing upwards. How do I get the inner stainless drum loose from the bearings? I've tapped the splined shaft but it does not budge and I didn't want to break anything? 2) The large circular plate on the back of the rear outer drum is where the stator attaches. Can this plate be removed or does one come with the new rear outer drum?

Answer Hello Dennis, The metal plate does not come with the new outer drum assembly. You will not use the heat shield.

Back bearing failed. if entire replacement tub is used will I need to buy a new stator and motor?

Answer Hello Tosct, The tub bearing can be replaced separately but may need to be pressed in. You would not have to buy new stator and motor even with new outer tub.

I replaced the outer tub and support(spider) and reinstalled the original stator and rotor. The old tub had the metal bracket and the tub didn't. I now read that a new stator and rotor should have been installed with the new bracket-less tub. Some say to replace them, other's say they're not needed. So, don't know which to do. There is a big difference in the cost between the two options. Also, every wash that we now do, large or small is really out of balance. This was never an issue before. I have leveled the machine three different times but it is still out of balance enough to shut off. I checked the supports (shocks ) and everything looks normal. Can the stator or rotor be causing this? This machine is 7 years old and has been great until now.

Answer Dennis, Per the manufacturers technical information, There is no need to replace the rotor and stator unless they are bad. You will not use the heat shield.

I need to replace the bearings in my washer and I read that it is easier to buy the rear drum with bearing. But I also read that the stator and rotor would need to be changed as well. Is that correct? If so, is that included in this part?

Answer Hello John. Hello John. There is no need to replace the rotor and stator unless they are bad. You will not use the heat shield. They are not sent with the new outer tub and must be ordered separately if needed.

Does the upper outer tub come with the outer tub as a whole unit?

Answer Darwin, the inner drum 3045ER1006E does not come with the outer tub AJQ35154201. Only parts that come with the outer tub is the bearings and tub hoses. Thanks!

I read that LG updated the rear outer drum and that you have to replace the stator and rotor with rear outer drum replacement. The rear drum seal failed and took out bearings. Replace bearings and seals or rear outer drum ass. with bearings and seals installed? Thanks

Answer Hello Bob. It is best to replace the outer tub assembly AJQ35154201 with the bearings already installed, but you do have the option to replace just the bearings. If installed wrong, the bearings will leak, and you are back to square one again with the unit. This is why the assembly is best and easiest to do.

I Jjust found out that I have to replace the outer back drum because the bearings are gone out the factory compressed the bearings in. Is this true? Thanks.

Are there other parts such as seals that should be replaced when replacing the outer tub assembly? When tearing down the washer, I don't want to find other parts that need replacing and then have to wait while the wash piles up. Also how much time will changing the outer tub take?

Answer Hello John, As long as your careful and you don't break anything, (it is a good idea to have assistance to take the tub out of the cabinet and reinstall it back into he cabinet. This is a heavy assembly and it is easy to break stuff and also get hurt if trying to perform these actions alone. Both should wear gloves while doing this as there are many edges to get cut on during this process. As far as other parts needed, the only part in addition to the outer tub is the seal that goes between the front and rear halves of the tub. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the last one I ordered and installed, this seal was included with the tub and bearing assembly. The diagram doesn't show this so I would order it to be on the safe side. You can return it for credit if you do not need it. You also need a sharpie or some other kind of marker. This is to make a mark on the outer tub for reassembly reference. It can only go together one way, but the mark on the outside will speed up the reassembly process. The first time you do it it can take 3+ hours. If your good at mechanical repairs, it can take less time. I do recommend taking pictures with your cell phone during the disassembly to reference during reassembly. This can save a lot of time and headache.
