I noticed the washer was not agitating properly and when i removed the dust cap i could see the dogs were not just worn but completely shattered into chunks. I ordered them and when i removed and broke apart the agitator, I was surprised to discover that the existing agitator cam that holds the dogs did not have any round retainer to hold the dogs in place. In the parts diagram for my washer it looks like there should be a retainer ring. I put the new dogs in and was able to reassemble the agitator by doing it upside down so the new dogs wouldn't fall out. When I reassembled and tested the machine it works much better when the agitator is on the high speed of the initial wash but still was only working sporadically in the slower agitation speed until I pressed down on it and then it seemed to start working better at the slow speed. I removed the cover to check it again and saw the inner lid with o-ring had popped itself off. there is a fair amount of sid-to-side play in the upper agitator. Does all this tell you anything? Should I be replacing more parts? I did not see a repair kit listed in the parts list for this model.

Hello, we have a Kenmore top loader washing machine. The machine starts, fills with water but the wash cycle is silent and does not agitate. Once the wash cycle is complete, the machine starts to drain and then spin clothes. Machine works well through all the other cycles except washing/agitating. We've recently replaced the agitator dogs (they were worn out) and the motor couplings are in good shape. We're not sure what to look for next. Please help. Thank you.
