How do I know When the clutch assembly needs changing.
Answer Mywhirl, The most common indicator is a poor spin, all the articles are still wet at the end of the cycle. Occasionally it will make a slight "slipping" scraping noise. here's some information that may be more helpfull [http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/3265-replacing-direct-drive-washer-brake-shoes.html]. Thanks
Washer vibrate or shake during spin.
Answer Hello Kant. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the suspension spring W10250667 may have come off or is broke. You will need to check the suspension spring in the unit.
Washing machine over fills runs over tub even on small load.
Answer Hello Robert. If you can stop the water from entering the machine by turning off the timer or unplugging the unit, you will need to look for a bad pressure hose or replace the pressure switch W10339229. If the only way to shut off the water is at the shut off for the water hoses, you will need to replace the water valve 285805 in the unit.
My lid switch failed today. The unit is ancient, (20 years). The inner workings are also getting to be noisy, (per repairman). I would just like to know what size this unit is, and what would be comparable in todays marketplace?
Answer Hello Hank,
There are no longer any good top load machines since the manufacturers have gone to high efficiency top loaders. The best machine in my personal opinion is a front load by Whirlpool. The full sized Duet. I've been a technician for a long time and the only machines I "love" are the ones I don't have to work on. I've had my Duet for over two years and have never had to do a thing to it. Out of probably 20 washers I have owned, this is the first one that has not failed even in warranty.
What makes a lid switch bad, is there more to it than the contact points? Why does the basket spin only after the lid is lifted and put down?
Answer Hi Whirldly. The lid switch part # 8318084 will go bad if the internal mechanical (physical) parts separate. Any man made part will fail eventually. If there was a electrical power surge as the washer was running, then the surge first goes through the lid switch and damages it.... If the lid was opened and then continuously slammed closed (as it was when I had teenagers), it has a negative effect as well. If it is not installed into the lid opened slot fully then the lid will close and engage the switch too soon and break it internally. Any one of these reasons can break it. The unit will only spin when the timer knows the lid switch is closed for safety. This has been a U.L. code change approx. 10 yrs ago. If you have to reset the lid to get a spin- then this is the sign of a bad lid switch. Thank You.
How do you fix a washing machine where water is going into the tub, but it is not staying nor is it leaking out on the floor?
Answer Bernard, if the washer is filling and draining at the same time there is a problem with the standpipe where the hose enters. The standpipe should be at least 36" above the floor and and the drain hose should be no more than 3 to 4 inches down inside the standpipe. When this happens it causes a siphoning effect (fill and drain at the same time). Hope this helps you, if you need further assistance let us know. Thanks!
Whirlpool direct drive. Transmission locks up at times and smell of burning belt. Replaced belts recently but does not seem to be as tight as it should. Has 2 springs for tension with space for another. ????
Answer Richard, A proper model number would be a big help. If you have a belt on your Whirlpool washer, you do not have a "direct drive" washer. There is the possibility that the "wig wag" solenoids or wiring are faulty, and causing the gears to intermittently lock and burn the belt. And the belt adjustment is done by loosening the motor mount bolts and sliding the motor assembly in/out until the belt tension is 1/4 to 3/8 inch deflection. Good Luck and Thanks
This washer is about 4 yrs. old. Has worked perfect until recently, when it spins it vibrates, shakes and walks. I have checked the front legs to be sure lock nuts are tight. I have also lubricated self leveling rear legs. I have read this washer has a ring around the spin tub,at the top, filled with liquid to enhance balance when it spins with an out of balance load. Anyone have any thoughts or experience to correct this problem?
Answer Hi Ray. You are on the right track. Are the foot pads in good shape to grip the clean floor ? Part # W10001130. When you level the unit front to back, and side to side you will lock the front leg nuts under the frame. Then did you reach in from the top and pull the top/center of the control panel and listen if the back legs "pop" out as you lift the rear legs ? Do this a few times to insure they are resetting properly without sticking. Yes, we have experience @ the inner tub top balance ring that can get defective. It is part # 387240. Remove the agitator and look to see if the inner tub nut needs tightening part # 21366. Thank You.
