On the last spinning cycle, the machine made a loud snap like noise and then began to smell like burning rubber. The machine continued to work but the smell got more intense. What would cause this?

When put into a spin cycle, my washer makes a loud and fast clicking noise, the tub does not spin, and the agitator turns weakly. I recently replaced the motor coupling with the newer metal-reinforced model after finding that the old one had broken, and when I checked the coupling out this time, it was fine. I am hoping this is a bad clutch, but is there any way to tell for sure, and that it's not the transmission that's the problem?

Thank you once again for your answer. I have follow up questions. What is the size of the spanner wrench used to remove the hardware to take the basket/tub out? If I shave the edges of the brake cam driver in the front so that the tube become exposed without disturbing the size of the rear opening then I can install the C clip. Will this work? In this case the new brake cam driver will look like the old one that I removed? Why there is no groove or slot to hold the C clip on the cam tube? Not required? A quick response will be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Khawaja

Thank you for telling me to replace 285792. I was able to turn entire drive tube assembly counterclockwise several revolutions and I heard no noise.I also found no groove or slot on the cam tube. The prblem is that cam tube has to come out slightly for me to put the C clip on the tube. How this can be done? What is holding the cam tube? What is the size of the spanner wrench that is used for this washer? I am sure you understand what I am looking for. There is no surety that if change the 285792 the 20 years old washer will work. I do not want to go that route. I will appreciate a detailed answer. Thank you. Kind regards. Khawaja

Thank you for your answer to my question regarding C clip installation.your advice to turn brake cam driver until it falls into place is not understood. The problem it appears is that the cam tube is not out enough in relation to brake cam driver. As per your advice I tried to turn the driver clockwise and counterclockwise. in both cases it stops after a small turn due to other parts in the area as it butts against them. I tried to push from the other side of the cam tube from inside the basket(only the agitator has been removed),the entire basket moves up and down a little bit but not the tube. There must be a way to expose the groove on the tube for installation of the C clip. I have spent some time on this problem of the washer and dirty clothes are piling up.I really need your help to get out of this situation. Regards, Musley P.S. As I had mentioned earlier when I removed the Transmission the brake camdriver was not in place, the two pins on it had sheared and the C clip was lying on the floor.
