On the last spinning cycle, the machine made a loud snap like noise and then began to smell like burning rubber. The machine continued to work but the smell got more intense. What would cause this?

When put into a spin cycle, my washer makes a loud and fast clicking noise, the tub does not spin, and the agitator turns weakly. I recently replaced the motor coupling with the newer metal-reinforced model after finding that the old one had broken, and when I checked the coupling out this time, it was fine. I am hoping this is a bad clutch, but is there any way to tell for sure, and that it's not the transmission that's the problem?

Washer will not spin at end of cycle. Mid cycle between wash and rinse it spins fine, just not at the end. If I go in and turn the basket to get it started, it will then spin out, but it will not do it automatically. We had it worked on a few months ago, and a belt and the agitator jaws were changed, but this did not correct the problem. After some internet research, I assume a clutch kit may be all I need to fix it, or since we do multiple loads per day, do you think I need to a order a transmission kit, your thoughts?
