I have a Whirlpool gd25dfxfw01 that doesn't cool (compressor doesn't run) until I strike the control unit (in the top front inside of the refrigerator) between the two temperature knobs...then the compressor cuts on and runs for awhile, and the refrigerator gets cold. Is the most likely cause a sticking "adaptive defrost timer" or the cold control, or something else?

My ice cream started melting. Everything else seems frozen good. So I dropped a thermometer in the freezer. Was -5. Couple hours later it is +20 and the compressor hadn't kicked on. So I turned the dials on the freezer and fridge up. Boom compressor kicks on. Turn the dials back to where they were. Compressor still running. Put my hand over the coil louvers in the back of the freezer. Seems to be moving a lot of cold air. I'm waiting to see how long it takes to cool the freezer down...or if it able to. In the meantime...assuming it cools down...is it the "cold control" 2198202 that I should replace. PS last night I thought it was the defrost circuit, but I walked through the timer, termination thermostat/relay, and heating element... all seem to work fine, so i don't think it is that.

Hello, Was hoping to get some help. I have a Whirlpool ed25uexhw00. It was running fine then all the sudden it stopped running. It has power, you open the doors and the light comes on but its not cooling. I found that if I turn the temperature dial off then on the lights turn off briefly and turn back on then the compressor starts running again and it starts cooling for a while until it randomly stops again. It doesn't start up again until I turn the temperature dial off then on. Any ideas?

My Whirlpool ED25RF stopped cooling and the freezer wasn't working either. I had someone out and they replaced the cold control. It worked for about a day and then didn't work again, the guy came back out and replaced it again saying the the first one he put in was faulty, now this one isn't working either. I turned up the knob and the vent in the fridge is iced over a little. What could be wrong?

I have a side by side. I noticed the refrigerator temperature about 48 and the freezer items thawing. So I turned the freezer knob colder and turned the refrigerator to the coldest. The freezer definitely got back to freezing and the refrigerator appeared to get colder so I turned down the freezer portion but kept the refrigerator to coldest. However the refrigerator temp stayed the same. The cold return seems to be blowing cold. I turned the refrigerator knob down and back up to see if it would restart the compressor but it did not work. Any ideas. It is 23 years old.

The fridge and freezer work for a period of time, then suddenly they both stop running. If you turn to off or sometimes if you turn back the dials then switch them back to the coldest setting it will start to run again. I unplugged it for a day and it did not help. How do I fix this, and can I do it myself? I am kinda handy and I can have help if needed.

The control for the freezer does not react when I turn it and the cold control is not working properly. Is there a kit to replace both controls?
