We need to replace the control panel on this appliance and whirlpool is no longer making it. Can we replace it with a different part?
Answer Hello Urochordata. This part has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part.
The control button doesn't push in to turn on panel. What do I need to do?
You will want to pull the control panel off the unit and check to see if the user interface 8181866 button for the start is broken.
The green "Hold to start" button is loose and doesn't engage to start washer. Also, the clear plastic covering around the control knob broke while I was attempting to push the green button in. Do you know the exact item numbers I need? Last question: is installation an easy task or do I need an expert?
Answer Dee, You don't need an "expert" to do the removel and checks at the console and buttons. It is a Project, but nothing you can't handle. We'll send you the information you need to dismantle the panel(s)and repair the washer yourself. The parts you will most likely need are :
8181855 Bezel, 8181861 Start Button, and 8181866 User Interface. The "tab under the start button is probably broken or deformed and not making proper contact.
if i order a interface does it come with instructions on how too install? do i need any special tools
Answer Doug, Most replacement parts do not have installation instructions, here's some help,"Removing the Washer Top Three screws secure the washer top at the back of the washer. Remove the three screws and lift the top from the washer. Removing the Console from the Cabinet
Disconnect the Touch Pad/LED Assembly ribbon connector from the left side of the Central Control Unit and release it from the wiring harness brackets on the right side of the washer top. Remove the detergent dispenser drawer by pressing down on the release tab at the back of the drawer and pulling it completely out of the washer.Once the drawer is removed, remove the screw in the recessed hole next to the drawer opening. Release the tab securing the right side of the console to the washer. Open the washer door and place a flat-bladed
screwdriver into the slot in the bottom center of the console. Push the console up to release center console tab. Be sure the ribbon
cable clears the cabinet frame. Removing the Touch Pad/LED Assembly from the Console The Touch Pad/LED Assembly is removed as a
single unit and contains the Push Buttons, LEDs, cable, etc.The buttons can be replaced separately. Begin by removing the cycle selector knob. There are eight tabs securing the Touch Pad/LED Assembly to the console. A flat bladed screwdriver will be helpful in releasing these tabs. Release these tabs in sequence from left to right around the Touch Pad/LED Assembly until all of the tabs are free and the Assembly can be lifted from the console." There are no "special" tools required, basic hand tools and a set of torx bits will be a good idea. Good Luck and Thanks
The start button will not push in , when we tried to start it we heard a piece fall behind the button any ideas ????
