My fridge cools to 37 degrees then shuts off as it should. It does not cool again (warms to 60 degrees) until I move the thermostat a little bit. I'm thinking I have a faulty thermostat?
Answer Hello Bob. It sounds like the cold control C8946703 is bad in the unit. If it is the damper control you move, then replace the damper R0161050. The cold control has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part.
My Amana refrigerator (freezer on the bottom ) is freezing everything on the bottom half of the refrigerator. I have the refrigerator temp set to the warmest it will go. Thank you
The most likely cause for the refrigerator section freezing would be a faulty damper control that is not reading the temps properly. The part number for the damper control on the unit is R0161050.
I found that the damper control was shutting down the compressor and fans. I removed the cover plate but can't figure out how to remove the damper control. The part #AP4247995 is the same as my damper control but it is fastened tight and I am afraid to pry on it but can't find any visible fasteners. Can you help so I can order the part. Thanks
Answer Hello Larry,
The damper on this unit is not an electrical part. You need to check the evaporator fan motor for running too slowly or if you stop the fan and let go, if the fan has to be bumped to restart or it starts slowly, the fan motor has failed. If the compressor is stopping also, check the door switch and the wiring. The damper is most likely installed with the self adhering foam tape which comes with the new part since it cannot be used twice.
My refrigerator seems cold enough but the freezer doesn't freeze. Is that the damper?
Answer Hello Karl. Check the conde3nser coils and make sure they are clean. Also, make sure the fan motor is good on the unit.
my lettuce in the vegetable bins freeze as well as other foods in the fridge is it the damper control
Answer Beau, Yes it could be a faulty damper, but first check and make sure, there is nothing in front of the damper grille, forcing the air down the back wall of the refrigerator, Check and make sure there are no articles hanging over the edges of the shelves or against the wall, blocking/trapping the air in the lower portion of the refrigerator. Also remove the crisper drawers, and check the bottom of the compartment, especially the rear corners for debris blocking the return air tunnels. Based on the part number, this should be a "bottom mount" refrigerator, If the freezer is too cold, or the door/drawer is not sealing proper, the air can migrate up into the lower area of the refrigerator.
Does a damper control the temperature in the fridge?
Answer Hello Jane. Yes, by opening and closing, it regulates the temp inside the fresh food.
Can I just order a spring for this?
Answer Hello Andrew,
Unfortunately, you cannot order just the spring. The spring has to be ordered with the damper assembly R0161050.
