My ice maker will only dispense crushed ice.
Answer Hello Mike,
If the dispenser will only give crushed ice you should check first for a build-up of smaller ice particles in the bottom of the crusher bin. This will freeze up and prevent the diverter from being able to be kicked out of the way. If there isn't enough ice build-up in the bottom of the crusher bin to cause the issue, make sure the solenoid in the bin shelf is not stuck in the up position and that the lever in the crusher bin will operate. If the arm is stuck, you need to put the ice in a bowl, turn off the ice maker and leave the crusher bin out overnight to allow it to reach room temperature. If it will still not operate, it may have to be replaced. If it does, and the solenoid is not stuck in the up position, you will need to make sure the solenoid is not frozen up. If it is, you will hear the solenoid being energized, but it will not kick up in the cube position. If the solenoid is frozen, you can thaw it out with a hair dryer in about 10 to 15 minutes. If this method solves the issue, you should check the ice door for air leaks with a flashlight, (if you can see light in the ice chute on the inside side of the door when shining in from the outside, there is an air leak and the ice door will have to be repaired). The solenoid normally only freezes up if the freezer is set to run below 0°F or moisture is getting into the area from room temperature humidity.
When you go to compress the unit chaters (oscilates) and the motor overheats after 30-40 seconds then trips. After a few minutes you can repeat the process. Hold the direction switch foward, with the cover removed and the platen will go down part way and the motor cuts out .
Answer Hi Philip. You need to find out if it is an electrical or a mechanical issue? Remove the drive chain from the motor and see if the motor part # W10439651 will run as needed regulrily. The motor switch is part # W10439651. If it does without hesitation then look at the chain drive/ gears kit part 882699. Make sure the power screw is not binding in any way. If the power nut is needed it is part # 777533. Thank You.
The ram stats and goes down just fine, but when it is fully extended it will stop and chatter until I turn it off. When I turn it back on the ram comes back up and stops. I replaced the directional switch and stil have the same problem. HELP?
Answer Hi George. Remove the power and pull the unit out completely. Remove the top/side cover. Look at the ram screw and all working gears and chain. Make sure that there are no broken or stripped parts. Make sure the power screw and the ram pressure pads are all lubricated w/ grease part # 675351. Clean the Bag container area and the drawer glides so all is clear and the front closes completely. Let me know how to assist. further when you have all this done.... Thank You.
Have Whirlpool trash compactor model tu8100xtp2. Ram will compact but not return to top. It just buzzes when in down position. Can bring it up by opening botton and turning gears, but then it just goes down and stays.
Answer Hello Rob. Most of these I've seen with this complaint has a bad switch 777811 or a bent lever on the switch, (which by the way usually still requires switch replacement). I hope this helps you in your repair. Have a great day!
Ram does not seem to compactor trash fully. Seems it must only be going part way. No strange sounds or any other syptoms. Could it be this switch?
Answer Kelly, A faulty directional switch would not allow the ram to move up or down, or would cause the ram motor to run constantly. The more likely situation is a faulty control switch or motor control switch, if the unit is partially compacting the contents. Thanks
