I also encountered a loud pop on my KitchenAid dishwasher and the door crashing open. For my model do I need two springs and the link kit or new hinges? Thank you.

Answer Rita, inspect the door cables on the dishwasher door- there should be one on each side. Usually when these break it can cause a loud pop and the door will slam down when opened. Also check the mounts and the hinges to ensure they are not broken. If the door balance cable link is broken it will need to be replaced, part number is 8194001. Thanks!
What hole on the frame does the spring hook to?

Answer Hello Kelly. If you pull the dishwasher out, you should see the other spring 8270182 to locate the hole. The manufacture does not specify the hole to place the spring into. It needs to be placed where there is tension on the spring for opening and closing the door. Hope this helps.

I am pretty sure I need to replace the spring and the door balance link. Is there a way to know if I need both w/o pulling it out? Does the model # include 2 (1 for each side) or will I need to order 2?
Also, to pull the dishwasher out 6-8" do I need to diconnect anything.

Answer Hello Suzanne. Yes, you will need to pull the unit out about 6 to 8" to check and see if you need the springs 8270182, or the balance kit 8194001. The balance kit comes with both sides and you will only need to order 1 kit. It depends on the extra water line and electrical line under the dishwasher on being able to pull it out without unhooking anything. Hope this helps.
I also heard a loud snap when opening the door to my dishwasher. It's 10 yrs old & I need a tine row. Is it best to leave these two repairs for the expert or is it something I could easily do? Thanks Barb

Answer Hello Barbara. These are not hard to do. You will need to pull the dishwasher out about 6 to 8 inches to access and replace the door spring 8270182. You will need to install a new link kit 8194001 and the spring if it is broken. Hook the spring to the link cable and the other end hooks to the dishwasher frame. The new tine row 9744565 snaps onto the upper dish rack. Hope this helps.
