Are Whirlpool and Maytag Dryer belt Tension pulley's the same part.
Answer Hello Thomas! Whirlpool owns Maytag so it is possible that they have the same parts now, however the best way to find out is by using a model number. For the model number you provided you can use part number 37001287. Thanks!
The belt tension pulley is screeching. Should I try replacing just the pulley itself first and not the whole assembly? Is there a bearing on the pulley wheel that usually causes this noise? I figure the arm, shaft, washers, retaining ring can be reused if a bad pulley bearing is the problem?
Answer Hello Tom,
The best way to determine what is needed is by tearing the unit down and spinning the pulleys by hand with the drum out. The idler pulley 37001287 is only one of three wheels. There are two drum rollers 37001042 in the rear that tend to give problems as often as the idler. I would recommend to replace all three at the same time to avoid another tear down anytime soon as they are all affected by the lint that is circulated in the dryer cabinet.
Of course, the better the exhaust is, the less often you have a failure of this nature since the exhaust allows the lint to escape the unit instead of blowing past the felt drum seals back into the cabinet. And I should mention at this point to never lubricate anything in the dryer with a wet lubricant. The lint will stick to it and get pulled into the bushing and cause it to fail sooner that it would if it were assembled without lubricant. If you want to lubricate anything in the dryer, you should use a dry lubricant. Corn starch or baby powder is recommended. Never use graphite as it is black. If it gets into the wash, it will stain and damage the fabrics in the load
I have a maytag legacy series elect. dryer. I cant find model #. I found mod # on motor (s58nxmzd-6964) but it does not come up in parts. Could this be the whirlpool #ap4291235, the tention pulley is bad?
Answer Jim, without the appliance model number we will not be able to verify the parts used on your appliance.
