I had a live chat with Angela earlier and she could not answer my scenarios. I can hear the solenoid engage when someone else activates the water dispenser. I replaced the ice door in my Whirlpool today and turned the water back on but no flow. The ice dispenser turns when I use that lever, but no water filling the automatic ice maker and no water for the water dispenser. The line is not frozen since the refrigerator has been off for over a month. Before I order the replacement water valve I would like to make sure that is the problem. Should I be able to hear a properly working solenoid when the switch on the water dispenser is engaged? Thank you.
Answer Hello John,
First of all you need to know that the water dispenser and the ice maker are not related. They are completely separate water lines and electrical circuits. That being said, you need to make sure the water supply to the unit has proper water pressure and there are no kinks in the water line. If you hear the water valve solenoid energize when power is applied, the issue will be the water valve.
Now in reference to the ice dispense, if there is ice in the bin and the ice door is opening but ice will not drop, you should remove the ice bin and hold the door switch in and operate the ice dispense paddle. If you can hold the yoke when it is trying to turn, either it or the threads on the motor shaft are stripped. Let us know if we can assist you further.
I'm not getting water to my icemaker.
Answer Hello Larry,
If you are getting water pressure to the back of the unit and the fill tube isn't frozen up, the ice maker assembly 4317943 has most likely failed. If the fill tube is frozen up, the water valve 2188542 needs to be replaced.
How do I remove water lines from inlet valve 2319734?
Answer Hello Kevin. Press in on the plastic fittings on the water valve to release the water lines and remove them from the valve on the unit.
Water leaking into freezer from ice maker.
You will want to pull the icemaker and check for seeping from the icemaker. Also check to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen. If you do not see signs of dripping down the back wall or shelves then you will want to make sure that the drain behind the wall is not frozen which would cause frozen ice at the bottom of the freezer compartment. If the fill tube and icemaker check ok and the drain is not plugged then you would want to replace the water valve.
