As you can tell this is an older model. We have had someone check it as the lights in the fridge went out last year. We did not replace the mother board as we thought the cost for just the fridge lights was prohibitive. Yesterday the freezer started defrosting and we have requested a repairman, but my question is could the mother board that the repairman suggested last also be causing this malfunction. I might add that we have repeatedly had to unplug this appliance and replug to get it to reset. This has been going on since our purchase. We Never knew when it would go CRAZY. We even thougth about buying a new fridge, but GEEZ, we cannot find a black one. Repairman is coming this PM, just checking to see if we can avoid "dumping this unit". The landfills should be getting full. My father is still using his Whirlpool and it is just 35 year old. As with GE the name went on before the quality went in. Thanks, Linda J

My frig stops cooling but if I unplug it and then plug it right back in it seems to cool down and do it jobs, until the next cycle. It seems like the defrost control is not turning the unit back on? Please help. Thank you , Russell

I have a Whirlpool Gold model #GI5FSAXVY02 refrigerator which is three years old. The ice and water dispensing function has stopped working. The ice maker continues to make ice but it won't dispense. When the dispensing lever is pressed, there are no sounds or other actions. After searching extensively on this site, I believe the control board (#W10162500) needs to be replaced but I would like to test the board, if possible, before I spend the money on a new one. Can anyone guide me on test procedures?

My refrigerator stops cooling and everything gets defrosted. I unplug it for 60 seconds then plug it back in and the compressor kicks on and cools fine for about a week then get the same problem. Is this a bad board or something else? Thanks!

From researching this site, I determined that the main control board on my Whirlpool refrigerator has gone out. I have removed the board, part # W10135090, to see if I could see any physical signs that this was the problem. I found that the board is "fried" under one of the black square components on the board and the white plastic box the board mounts in is scorched and black in that location. Obviously the board is bad, but what caused it? Everything seems to be working fine with the refrigerator. Does this just happen or is something else wrong? I don't want to fry the new board when I install it.

The refrigerator is running. We replaced the upper light yesterday. Last night, upon opening the fridge, a pop was heard and now all the lights are out and the display lights are also out. Would this mean the circuit board is shot or is there a fuse i can replace? Again, the fridge is running, I am afraid it may not stop and freeze up, not sure.

Part time house Quit cooling lost everything. The lights are on. Unplugged unit, cleaned it up, checked the capacitor. Capacitor checked good in range. Plugged in, tried to start as if start capacitor was bad did that 1 time then nothing at all. Ordered start relay kit replaced, now absolutely nothing. Lights of course work. Would the board be the issue?

My unit worked for about 3 weeks before the refigerator started getting warmer and warmer. Freezer iced up on inside cover. Repairman didn't check with meter but defrosted unit and said the main board is bad and probably UI board. Is this a symptom of the board and should I try to diagnose myself? Unit's been working great for about 24 hours.

The fridge and freezer cool to proper cooling temperature and when the motor kicks off it does not kick back on. Is this the control board?
