Right rear, 8" 1800w element stopped working. Switch turns as normal, 'on' light comes on but element is cold. Other elements are fine. Is this switch or the element? thanks
In order to determine if the switch is bad or the element you will want to check the voltage at the switch. You will turn the switch on and check from H1 to H2 on the switch for 240 vac. If there is 240 vac then the element is bad and if there is not 240 vac then the switch is bad.

If your model number has a 0 at the end of it, you will need to order part number 8273992. If your model number ends with a 1, you will need to order part number 8523692.
The front right(as I face range) 1800watt 8" burner of my 11-year-old Whirlpool range no longer works. I ordered a new element today. How do I install the new element?
To replace the element you will first need to remove power from the range. Once the power has been removed you will take 2 screws out , one from either side of the side of the door opening and lift the top and slide forward. Disconnect the harness and flip top over on a soft surface. Remove old burner and install new.

You can use a flashlight to look down inside the element to see if you notice any burn marks on the element. You can also test the switch for 240 vac when the unit is turned on between H1 and H2 on the switch. If no power then you will need to replace the switch and if there is then replace element.

You will want to make sure that you are getting power to the element. If there is 240 vac coming to element and element is not coming on then you would need element 8273992. You can test at the infinite switch. Check for 240 vac across H1 and H2 with burner on. If there is 240 vac then the switch is good and you would have bad element.
