Is there anyway to check drain pump, after we take it out, to see if it is bad?

You can put 120Vac across the terminals to see if it runs. The thing you should pay closer attention to on this design pump is if the impeller has separated from the motor shaft. The 120Vac will run the pump motor though if applied to the two terminals.

Answer Hello Carolyn. The filter cap 8181735 unscrews counterclockwise to remove from the pump. These can be very tight.

The way the assembly actually works is that the filter part itself swivels on the screw on cap. There are "tracks" that are plastic that the filter part meshes with to keep it upright in the pump housing. The swiveling cap which has the "O" ring on it, screws into the pump housing. When you unscrew the "trap" assembly, the water inside the pump and sump area will escape and run out. When you get to the end of the threads, the filter part of the assembly should slide straight out of the pump housing. This is the part that cannot be turned or the tracks, which are plastic, will be broken. If the filter part does not want to come out, you will have to force it as it is clogged with debris which will have to be removed for proper operation of the machine. If it has to be broken to be removed, so be it, as the unit will never work right in a clogged state.
Filter cap for drain pump. How to remove it without breaking it. I was able to remove the cap but the catcher is stuck. I have sprayed the catcher but what tool do I use to wind it out.

Answer Hello Sue. If you have unscrewed the cap 8181735 from the housing, you will need to use needle nose pliers and grasp the filter and pull it out of the opening. If it is clogged bad, it can be very tight to remove. Do not try to turn the filter, just pull out the opening. This can damage the filter or the pump housing if you try to turn it.
I removed the cap and the filter does not want to come out,how do I remove it with out breaking something? What could be holding it in? There are 4 plastic pieces on the front of the filter that I can not get out, they are not very strong and I am afraid to pull on them and break them.

Answer Hello Randy. If the cap is removed, the filter 8181735 should come out with it. It sounds like trash may have it stuck. You will need to pull it out of the unit. If it breaks, you will need to replace it. There is no tricks to removing the filter from the unit. It should come out without breaking. Hope this helps.
