My washer was making a screeching type noise for about a month. Then the other night it stopped was still in the spin cycle seem to be running ok, but I smelled something like burned rubber and when I stopped it and opened it up it was smoking. I took it apart and there was like black dust and black pieces that I assumed was the break pads. I need to know if thats what it is and how to replace them.
Answer Hello Michelle,
This is most likely from wear on the belt. When the unit runs for a while and the bearing is bad, the heat from the units' operation causes the bearings to expand and seize. You probably had a outer tub seal leak detergent water into the bearing, washing the lubrication from the bearing. This is a common problem with this design. This is only if there is no debris in the drain pump which can cause the same type of belt wear.
Washer will fill with water. However will not agitate, nor spin. Also noticed a rubber kind of smell.
Answer Hi Larry. The no agitate symptom is a lid switch part # R0000014. Look at the belt part # 27001007 to see if it has burnt. Look at the belt pulley ass part # 40045001 to see if it has broken or dragging. Look at the brake pads part # R0000014 to see if they are fractured or broken not allowing the clutch release and the unit to spin. Remove the top tub cover. Look in between the inner tub basket with a flashlight to see if any balled up clothing articles are bunched up not allowing the inner basket to spin as well. Look at the upper trans./tub bearing to see if there has been any water leaking from the tub seal and the bearing.Thank you.
When washer goes through spin cycle and finished drum will not stop till gravity kicks in
Answer Hello Rod. You need to check and see if the brakes R0000014 are bad and needs to be replaced on the unit. If they are broken or bad, they will cause the washer to do as you described.
My brake pads are off, but not damaged. Looks like the bolts eventually fell off. I for the life of me can not figure how they go back on in relation to the brake rotor. I see slight wear marks, circular, which suggest that they have some interaction with the rotor but if I try to put them against the brake rotor it obviously impedes the machine when it needs to rinse spin. Coupled with this I have the plastic helix, along with, the spin pulley, jumping up & down making a racket & the basket will barely spin. My question is, if the brake shoes are installed correctly( a pic would be nice ) will this then fix the problem with my spin pulley / helix?
Answer Hi Sal. When you have all the main pulley , bolt , helix and washers assy. together, you can rotate the assy. enough that the pulley will engage the clutch and widen the pulley. Then the brakes will be easily inserted and loctite/bolted down. Thank You.
Did not agitate changed brake pads ,now it agitates ok.,Now spin cycle did start up ,motor thermal protector opened ,waited to start again ,now it sounded like stripping gears ,[ 1 ] how much silicone grease, should be used . is there damage to the helix plastic ap4048273,and spin pulley ap4048392 .
Answer Hi Dennis. Glad you are getting it going little by little at least... Lightly coat the brake pads to "break" them in. The spin pulley kit part # 40047202 should only be coated lightly. Also coat the washer and the cam part # 40047402. You need to freely spin the motor and pump and transmission individually to see if they are free. Thank you.
