I have a older kenmore/whirpool washer, when it spins the washer actually shuts off and states there was a PF on the display. Would this be caused by a faulty lid switch?

My washer will not start the spin cycle. It either does nothing, no sound or movement or makes a humming around the timer switch with no movement. Does this sound more like the lid switch or the timer switch? Or something else altogether? Thanks for your help
