Bulb replacement procedure and estimated time? Correct bulb number? Is this a model I should check torsion springs on at the same time?
Answer Hello Rhugg,
If the correct model number is KBHC179JSS04, The Q tube replacement part number is 8186528. If the door isn't giving any issues I wouldn't bother it. What's the old saying? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
How do I replace m/w lamp for this model? Thank You, Barry
Answer Barry, It's a pretty involved procedure, you may have to remove the oven from the wall. But, in most cases, once you've removed power to the oven, removed the control panel and the air vent, in most cases, you can then unclip the light receptacle holder and lift the bulb out of the recepatcle and change it. It's a very tight "squeeze" but do able. We could've sent you some additional information, but you forgot to attach an email address.
Can you send me the detialed information you refer to at the end of this narritve regard how to install the lamp? I hope I dont have to take the unit out of the wall in order to replace the lamp...THANKS
I ordered and received door hinges (springs) for the main oven unit as well as a lamp for the microwave unit. The the door hinge replacement went off without a hitch and it works fine and closes tight. However, the lamp replacement did not go as well. I've followed the various posts on replacing the microwave lamp. 1) I successfully removed the side rails. 2) I can not figure out how to remove the microwave from the unit. I removed 8 Torx screws (4 from each side)of the microwave cavity. This did not seem to work. 3) I successfully removed the control panel and disconnected all 10 wiring harness connections (Hope I can get them back together). This allows very limited access to a cover over the top of the microwave. With much difficulty I manage to remove two of the three square head screws two of which were blind access. This allows me to lift one side of the cover to hopefully expose the lamp holder. However, this just exposes another cover which covers the entire unit that I can not remove without fully removing the first cover. This is not possible without removing the entire microwave unit. Question: Can you provide more specific info on how to remove the entire microwave unit so I can fully access the top panels? Comments: 1) You delivery was unbelievable, I ordered Friday AM on 7/27 and received delivery on all the items on Saturday 7/28, probably a world record. 2) Whoever designed the KitchenAid oven/microwave combo ought to be shot. Did they never think the lamp would burn out? Then they make it almost impossible to replace without fully disassembling the entire unit. Then they use a combination of Phillips, Torx, and Square head screws. Needless to say I'm crossing KitchenAid off my list fro any future appliance purchases. An interesting side note that should have alerted to the difficulty ahead. There was an abandoned flashlight and technician instruction pamphlet behind the control panel on top of the cover. Looks like the prior owner tried and failed as well. At least I got a nice flashlight out of the ordeal. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer Wally, Most field technicians, will attempt to replace the M/W cavity light through the control panel opening. Even though it's a tight fit and work area. The alternative, removing the wall oven from the opening or removing the microwave is a bit time consuming, and in some cases very frustrating. We will be sending you a lot of information, that will get you through the repair, Thanks

Answer Hello Jerry.
1. Disconnect the electrical power to the microwave/oven combination. 2. Remove the microwave oven from the oven cabinet) a) Unclip the wire retainer and remove it. b) Remove the lamp from the holder and remove the wires from the harness." Quite often, you don't have to remove the microwave. You can usually access and change the cavity light by removing the control panel. " 1. Disconnect the electrical power to the microwave/oven combination. 2. Open the lower oven door. 3. Remove the bottom screw from each of the two side trim pieces . 4. To remove the side trim, pull the bottom out approximately 2?, and slide the top down to free it from the control panel. 5. Remove the screws from the oven control 6. To remove the oven control panel, pull it out at the bottom, and lift and unhook it from the oven cabinet support at the top. 7. Pull the ground clip on the end of the green wire from the edge of the metal panel, and disconnect the wire connectors from the board. Set the panel face down on a padded surface to protect the finish.

How do you change the light bulb in the microwave of the combo....and what bulb # do we need to get?
Answer Dottie, The replacement m/w cavity light is part number W10440740, just remember, do not touch the glass bulb, use a cloth or gloves, the oil from your finger, can cause the bulb to fail. Repalcing the bulb, isn't that easy, you have two options, remove the oven from the wall and access the assembly from the top. Or you can remove the control panel and air vent and work with the bulb and wiring from the front. Just remember to remove power to the wall oven, and label all the wires before you disconnect them.
How do you change the light bulb and what light bulb do I use?
