I heated some food in my microwave with an unknowingly non microwable lid attached, the oven smelled like burned electricle stuff and the food was still cold. It hasn't heated since, what's wrong?
Answer Hello Mildred. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the trans former should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron.
Rcs10mpsa 1000 Watt My microwave oven turns on like it is cooking but it is not. The cook button goes on. It sounds like its on very low. What's the problem?
Answer Hello Buzzo,
This can be one of several issues. It can be a low voltage issue where the high voltage circuit is never being supplied voltage, (magnetron TCO) or it can be in the high voltage circuit, (HV diode, HV capacitor, HV transformer, magnetron). I have located some technical information on it that is too lengthy to include in this format. If you could please re-post with an e-mail address, we can send this information to you.
The heating element? Has gone on our microwave. It has power, timer etc but does not heat the food. What type of service does it need?
Answer Hello Jagu,
The unit has a few components that would cause it not to heat. You would want to check the thermal fuse, diode, transformer, magnetron. Any one of these parts can cause failure of the unit not heating.
Marnetron number is 2M248J(GS). The bottom number is 6M 14 36 does this number matter?
Answer Dwight, the manufacturer replacement magnetron for your Whirlpool Microwave model GT4175SPB2 is part number R0131296. This is the manufacturer replacement magnetron and will work on your appliance. The numbers on the magnetrons shouldn't make a difference at this time. Thanks!
My Whirlpool microwave oven works on everything except it is not heating. What do you think is the problem?
Answer Hello Cesar! If the microwave is not heating it could several different parts. The main parts you will need to look at and test is the magnetron R0131296, transformer W10170369 and high voltage diode 8205489. You can test the parts using a multimeter TJMA-DM1. Here is a link from our free repair forum you can refer to for help with using a multi meter.
