My washer does not come up to full speed in the spin cycle. I replaced the thrust bearing and had little to no change. Is the motor two speed? If so, might the motor be bad and not going into high speed. Please advise.

Maytag Washer MAV6000AWW Washer was only agitating the load if heavy duty and whites cycle selected; which I assume would be the strongest setting. Now the washer will not begin a spin cycle with water level full and I hear a humming and smell slight overheating.

I recently took the agitator and basket out to clean out a lot of old soap scum and mineral deposits which seemed to always show up on my clothes. After reassembling with a new gasket, I notice a burning smell and the motor seems to heat up, but it will wash a load of laundry (both agitate and spin). I wonder if I did something that might be producing too much resistance to the motor and causing it to heat up. When I take the belt off and run the spin cycle, the motor doesn't heat up. Also, can you tell me where the brake is- you refer to it in other responses. Thank-you, Jeff

Washer makes loud grinding noise, mostly only during spin cycle. Will still complete the cycle but has now started getting very hot to the point of making the clothes hot even when washed in cold water. Took it mostly apart but couldnt see anything visibly wrong with it without removing the coil spring and digging deeper. Is it worth fixing, what could be the problem?

When running a wash cycle, my washer will fill the tub, but once the tub has been filled, it will not start to agitate without an assist (makes the humming noise of a stuck motor before it is assisted). If I assist it by rotating the tub a little, it will then begin to agitate and run as it normally does. It requires another little assist (by rotating the tub) again at the beginning of the rinse cycle. The spin cycle operates normally without needing an assist. Is this due to a weak and dying motor?
