I replaced the evaporator fan motor because everything I read said if you have power at the fan and the fan is not working then the fan motor is bad. I am now on a second replacement motor and still no avail. Both new motors get power at the connections but fair to turn on when the compressor comes on. Any ideas?
Answer Richard, You are aware that there could be a 5 to 10 minute delay to the evaporator fan motor, after the compressor starts and runs ? could this be the issue ? Power is supplied to the evaporator motor 10513803 from the cold control on the yellow wire. whenever the circuit is closed there is power to the fan motor. The brown wire at the fan motor is the neutral leg of the circuit, it is routed through the defrost thermostat R0161088 and defrost heater 12049801 and out to the neutral circuit in the line cord. The fans are not the issue, you'll need to check the wiring and the thermostat and heater for proper circuitry and loose connections, frayed wires etc.
I just replaced the evaporator motor and it ran great from wed evening til now. Temp was were it should be in both sides I put several items in both sides earlier today and just went to check it. The items in the freezer were froze but starting to defrost and the refrigerator temp is up to 50. I do not feel any air blowing in either side. What else can I check or do?
If the compressor is not working and the fan is not blowing then the unit may be in a defrost cycle and had not come out. If the unit does not come out of defrost and start running again after 30 minutes then most likely the issue will be caused by a faulty defrost timer that is sticking. The defrost timer can be advanced by turning the gear on the timer R0131577.
How do you bypass the thermostal control?
There is no recommendations for bypassing any of the controls for your unit.
Where is the defrost control located?
Answer Hello Crystal,
The adaptive defrost control is behind the kick panel in the center. You have to lay in the floor to see it. It is held to the bottom of the unit by a metal clip and cannot be accessed without removing it and opening the plastic housing it is mounted in.
how do install evaporator fan motor?
To install the evaporator fan motor. Remove power from unit and pull the rear cover of the freezer compartment. This will allow you access to the evaporator fan motor
Hi again, does this evaporator fan works continuously? even when the compressor is off, or when is on the defrost cycling? on my Amana it never stops, what could be happening? thank you.
Answer Hello Alex. No, when the compressor turns off, the evaporator fan motor does too during the defrost cycle. You may have a defrost issue with the unit if it is not going into the defrost cycle.
Hi, I have an Amana. The model number is sqd26ve. Everything works but the evaporator fan doesn't come on. I have checked it and its good. What do I need to fix this problem? Thanks!
Answer Hello James,
The wiring configuration is a bit different on the Amana units in the sense that the evaporator cannot operate until the defrost thermostat [R0161088] is satisfied. If you bypass the defrost thermostat and the evaporator fan runs, the defrost thermostat is either bad, or it hasn't gotten cold enough to close. As long as the unit is cooling properly, when the new part is installed, it takes from 7 to 10 minutes for the cold coils to get cold enough for the fan to be energized.
I have just ordered a new evaporator fan motor for our Amana. This is the third one in the nine years since we bought this fridge. Why would this part fail this frequently?
Answer Hello Jim. Usually the fan motors 10513803 fail from excessive moisture. Make sure the doors close good on the unit each time you use them. If not, this can cause moisture inside the unit. Hope this helps.
