I am an idustrial mechanic and i was wondering if it is possible to replace just the bearing in the outer tub rather than buying the whole assembly?

Answer Hello Rriedel. No, the manufacture does not offer just the bearing for purchase. You will need to replace the outer tub assembly Y94942. Hope this helps.

I have a Whirlpool duet frontloader and with a worn outer hub (hard plastic). It sounds like I will also need an inner hub, but if I am about to move and want to limp along, can I use if it still spins? Or, am I at risk of flood or ruining the whole machine? Thanks

Answer Hello Jay. When the bearing goes out in the tub assembly, it will either leak, or it can damage both tub halves. You will need to replace the outer tub W10253866 as soon as you can. Hope this helps.

I think the hub bearing is starting to go out. I understand that changing this will require a complete tear down. I ordered manual AP3958562 as a guide. Could you provide me a list of all the parts that I will need. I want to order them all at once and I only want to tear it down once. I am a mechanic by trade. I would like your professional opinion on a list of parts that may be or should be required for a hub bearing change out. Thanks

Answer Stanwint, I take for granted you'll be working on the tub bearing, so you will need to order the rear outer tub assembly W10253866 and I would also replace the belt W10388414 . The other part you "may" need would be the wash basket W10269756 and thats only if the drum shaft is badly scored or damaged(in most cases you only need to clean up the shaft with cutting oil and emory cloth). I have the same problem, bearning going out. There has to be a bearing replacement besides the outer hub replacement. What is the bearing number?

Answer Hello Muddflinger. The only way to get the bearings, is to order the outer tub W10253866. The manufacture does not sell just the bearings. Hope this helps.

I think tht my tub outer needs replaced. The white plastic edges outside of the stainless steel tub shredded and broke off for some reason. When the machine spins it makes a lot of noise. Why in the parts list is one of the tub outers very inexpensive and the other is extremely expensive. Do they both have to be replaced if one is bad.

How hard is it to change outer and inner tub since the bearing is bad?

Answer Hello Enrico. It sounds like the tub bearing is bad. You can turn the inner basket by hand, and if you feel dragging, the bearing is most likely the problem. You will need to change the outer tub W10253866 to replace the bearing. Hope this helps.
