Our Kenmore Elite started banging hard and loud at the high speed spin / less noise at med. spin. Unit is 8 yrs old has never seen a repair man. The guy Sears sent over talked to my wife, didn't turn the machine on or look in side. Gave us a repair estimate of $1800. Yep, thats right. And collected his $75.00 dollar fee. We called in another local repairman. His fee was $35.00. He ran the unit ,opened it up. At first he said it was the shocks. When he'd grab the shocks and push up on them the banging would get less. After we told him we would probably buy a new unit,He changed and said it was the outer tub, but he would buy our unit for parts and give us $40.00. What do you think?
Answer Pat, If it were an bad tub bearing/outer tub issue, there should be some type of additional noise(from a squeal to a loud rumble). based on the knocking noise and the fact that it increases and decreases with speed selected, our best guess would be a broken or loose spinner shaft assembly, which would require a inner basket repalcement W10269756. If you have some basic skills and tools, and a few hours (3 or 4 )free, You could repair this issue yourself.
Can I just get a new seal that goes from the tub to the tub bearings?
Answer Hello Dan. No, you will need to replace the outer tub assembly W10253866 to replace the seal. Hope this helps.
I am an idustrial mechanic and i was wondering if it is possible to replace
just the bearing in the outer tub rather than buying the whole assembly?
Answer Hello Rriedel. No, the manufacture does not offer just the bearing for purchase. You will need to replace the outer tub assembly Y94942. Hope this helps.
I have the same problem, bearning going out. There has to be a bearing replacement besides the outer hub replacement. What is the bearing number?
Answer Hello Muddflinger. The only way to get the bearings, is to order the outer tub W10253866. The manufacture does not sell just the bearings. Hope this helps.
