Kitchenaid refrigerator was running almost continuously last summer. It ran for about 30-45 seconds then shut off, started running again about 20 seconds later and the cycle repeated. This is a summer home so that was how we left it. Then Sandy hit and when we next visited the refrigerator lights were on but it was not running at all even though thermostat was on. Put thermostat to off for a while then raised it but still nothing. What part do you think failed? Also, is there a timer control with this model refrigerator? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer Hello Tony. Based on the information you provided, you need to test the control board and the power to the control to make sure they are good. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. the problem is there is only other wire, white. what connection do I put that on as there are 3 on the relay? Also there are 3 round pins on the compressor in the position of the corners of a triangle. The white wire was attached to the top of these 3 pins. The bottom 2 pins had the relay attached to it. Now I figure the overload goes onto the top pin and the red wire attaches to it. The relay will go on to the bottom 2 pins, and the white will attach to it once I know which connection to use

Answer Jim, You're correct in all the statements you made. The white wire in the main harness will attach to the no. 3 terminal (usually on the right side) of the new relay assembly. Thanks

replacement kit 4387913 overload kit. Has 2 parts the relay and the overload. The refrig relay/overload has only 2 wires going between them, a red wire into and out of the small drum like part and then to the larger I believe relay. the relay is mounted to the compressor on 2 pins. there is a 2nd wire, white which is connected directly to the compressor on a pin. the new parts, the one has 2 connectors which appear to connect to the 2 pins on the compressor and the other has a connector that could connect to the other pin on the compressor. now, there are 4 terminals on the part with the 2 pins and 1 terminal on the other part with the one pin. how do i wire this up? where does the red wire go. I assume the white wire goes on the part with the single pin because there only one wire connector and it looks like it goes on the compressor pin that had the white wire. any help would be great. thanks

Answer Hello Jim, The red wire would be your hot wire and would go to the overload. The other wires would connect one to each side of the relay.

My refridgerator freezes and cools just fine. my problem is when the compressor and fans shut down after cycling, the fan in the freezer will come back on after 7 or 8 seconds and run for 10-40 seconds.It will keep doing this for a long period of time and then the compressor will kick back on after awhile.I had a service tech here today from a local repair service and he said he has never seen anything like this before and is baffled. I figure there must be a relay somewhere that isn't allowing the power to the fan to shut down or may not be disengaging all the way when the compressor shuts down. The tech claims when the compressor is not running, the fans should be totally shut down also. Is there a relay that controls the circulation fan that may be faulty?

Answer Hello Jim. The thermostat and the defrost timer supply the power to the fan motor. You will need to test the thermostat and see if the power is cutting on and off. If so, replace the thermostat. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Answer Hi Bruce. Use a magnifying glass and see the "r" on the compressor pin. The"c" terminal is the single top (or bottom) pin that the overload w/ the red wire goes to. There are 2-blue wires from the run capacitor that "straddle (Parallel) the compressor "s" and "r" terminal. It will be the #3 and # 2 relay terminals as the combined white will go on the same relay side terminals (the #1 terminal). Thank You.

Thanks for your quick response to my previous question. Here's my issue, my Kitchenaid KTRS19KFWH01 refridgerator has only one white wire leading to the start relay pn 10097204 (not the overload, that's a seperate unit with a red lead.) There is no run capacitor with a 2nd white lead located anywhere in the units lower component compartment. The start relay has 3 lug connections which are numbered 1, 2, and 3. The white lead was disconnected from the relay and there it no wiring diagram to indicate where the lead should be connected. Lugs 1 and 2 are located to the right, vertical to one another, and lug 3 is located opposite to them on the upper left of the relay when facing it upright. The appliance runs with the white lead connected to lug 1, but I'm not 100% certain that it belongs there. I'm trying to be sure that this unit opporates correctly and safely. Thanks again!

Answer Hi Matt. Red On The overload. Both White wires on the side of the relay that has 2- connections vertically. The other white one from the capacitor connects on the opposite, single relay connection. Thank you.
