My Maytag washer will not agitate, spin or empty the water. Is this the drive belt and pump belt that will cause this? Worked fine last time I did wash. Thanks
The first thing to check would be the lid switch on the unit. If the lid switch checks ok then you will want to check the pump and see if it spins freely. If not then the pump is faulty and would need to be replaced.
Before the unit will enter the spin cycle I have to remove some clothed before it will spin effectively. Do I need to replace the belts?
You will want to check the belts for being stretched and not pulley properly. Also check the drain pump to ensure that it is not clogged and keeping the unit from draining properly.
My washer will not fill up with water. Does the spin cycle.
Answer Hello Tom. See if the fuse on the lid switch assembly is bad. If so, replace the lid switch assembly 22001682. It is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
Washer makes a rumble noise after spin?
Answer Hello Jay. Check and see if the drive block is stripped out and needs to be replaced on the unit.
My washer will agitate but will not spin. It pumps water out fine. There is a smell of burning belts as well.
Should I replace both belts?
Answer Rick, Yes you will want to replace both belts 12112425, but since the washer won't spin , you'll need to check for an article stuck between the tubs, and or a seized tub bearing 6-2095720 and 6-2040130 assembly. Raise and block up the front of the washer, remove the belts, grasp the transmission pulley and turn it clockwise, if the transmission doesn't turn, or there is a POP noise or you feel the transmission "break" loose and it turns, you most likely have a seized tub bearing.
While looking for a water leak I found the the pump belts to be stickey, and in very bad condition. The belt was falling apart in my hands it possible this is the cause for a leak? After each washing there is a 3-5 inch wide puddle under the washer. Maytag Model is LAT9557AAE Part replacement is 12112425
Answer Hello J.W.,
The belts sound like they need to be replaced, but they cannot cause a leak. You need to run the unit with the front panel off to locate the leak. Of course you should be very cautious not to get caught up in the spinning transmission assembly, but there isn't much of a way to locate a leak without opening the unit. If the water gets in the floor with no water being visual inside the cabinet of the unit, the water pump 6-2022030 is the most likely cause of the leak.
