The Amana Washer that we have the belt broke in early December 2013 as it was the original one. I ordered a replacement belt from Searspartsdirect.com, received the belt put it on. The belt seemed to be extremely rigid when I took it out of the package, but went ahead and put it on the washer. Then about four (4) weeks later the purchased belt broke again. So I got another one from Searspartsdirect and my son and I put it on today and it smoked after running the machine for just a few minutes. We followed everything to a 't" and still experienced problems. I am at the end of my rope with this machine. Where or what could we have done wrong? Looking for a quick answer to fix our problem!!!! Thank you.

Replaced belt but I think it may be a smaller belt than original. Went through wash cycle fine, but at spin it makes loud noise and helix gear pops up and down not engaging. Brake pad pully moves up and down releases and pops down lockimg brakes. Is this fixable?

Do I have to take off the base and the support basket to install the spin pulley, there seems to not have enough space even after lifting the lower shaft need 3/8" more space , is there a trick?
