The washer will fill up. Once it is full and the lid is closed you can hear it start to spin. The motor is going but the tub will not spin. Starts to smell like something is burning. But when you hit the "Spin" cycle to empty the tub it spins fine.

Old Maytag clothes washer. Machine was running well. I lifted the lid to add clothing to the load and the agitator continued to churn even with the lid up. I closed the lid - the machine kept running. Lifted the lid again - machine stopped. Became dead with the lid up or down. No controls work. Makes no noise in response to any adjustment. When I lift and lower the lid I hear a clicking sound from the small white button as it is pushed in and out. Posts say 95% of the time a replacement lid switch is required. ??? Your advice sought. What part # should I buy. Thank you.

I turned the washing machine on at night and when I went to put clothes in the dryer the next day it was still sitting full of water but would not move into any cycles. I have tried every cycle, water level, and water temperature and it seems completely dead. After opening the control panel I checked the fuse which looks fine. I removed the switch and tested it. The first time it seemed dead but when I tried again to be sure I was holding the VOM prongs were in good contact it seemed fine. I read the next thing to do is to test the timer, but there are so many wires involved in the timer harness that I have no idea how you go about testing that.

Our wash machine timer always hangs up after the wash cycle and won't advance to the rinse cycle. It seems to do this on all settings. Is it the timer or is there another problem. It will continue if we physically advance the timer.

My Maytag topload washer will fill with water at beginning of the cycle then nothing until the timer advances to the rinse mode where it will agitate, drain and spin. I checked the other Cycles and the same problem occurs. Therefore, do you think the Lid Switch or Timer is bad?
