Washer fills but will not start. smells hot, timer makes popping noise, but not arcing. level fill sensor is ok, replaced the drain pump, swapped out timers. Found out that if I let the machine make it's noises for appx 2 minutes, the cycle begins, and will work fine the rest of the day.

P/n AP4290517 Is this the part that controls the water level? My knob broke off and there is a maroon shaft that the knob fits onto. Is this shaft part of that pressure switch? How do I get the big control knob off without breaking it? I am trying to get the panel off. Thanks for your help.
