The oven starts and runs good but is the pilot light suppose to stay on when the oven is turned off. Should the pilot light stay on when not in use.

This Magic Chef stove is in a 1984/85 Winnebago RV. It does not get used but about 15 times a year. Everything has been working fine but now the oven stopped working. I light the pilot and there is a “tiny” flame that stays lite but when I advance the oven knob the oven flame does not kick in? I’ve checked the burner and it seems to be unobstructed. I’m guessing the Thermostat Valve is bad??? (Part Number: AP4262343 MFG Part Number: W10125661?)…Or is there another consideration that has more merit and/or your comments are appreciated? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I dismantled my RV stove to clean it and I took the thermostat apart at the oven control valve. It consisted of two springs, two lid type disks and a washer with slots in it, Then it was held together by a threaded cylinder. What I would like to know is the assembled sequence of above described parts, I do not create a dangerous situation. Also the two gas lines that run from the burner to the gas valve was damaged during original assembly. One had kink where it circles around at the bottom in the back of the stove and the other line had a screw from a clamp on the back of the stove pinched and cut into, which could have been a dangerous situation also. I guess your quality control missed those two items. Please advise. Thank You. Bruce C.

Answer Hello Bruce, The thermostat W10125661 is not considered to be a serviceable part. Once it is dis-assembled, the manufacturer says it has to be replaced to prevent creating an unsafe situation. The gas lines that were damaged should be replaced also. I guess Whirlpools' quality control should be as thorough as we are in our diagnosis.

I have a magic chef oven in my rv, I replaced the safety valvle and still have the same problem. The pilot lights fine but when I turn on the themostat I get nothing. The flame stays the same and never changes. I tried to heat the thermocouple with a lighter and I still dont get a change in the pilot light. Any ideas? Thanks

I have Magic Chef in my RV. The pilot lights and stays lit as it is designed. When I turn the thermostat to 350, the burner comes on but heats the oven to perhaps only 150. If I turn the thermostate to Broil, the oven heats up to perhaps 200 or so. In either case, the burner cycles on and off; the oven just never gets hot. Can you help me determine where the fault lies?

The pilot lites great and the burner lites great, but the burner stay wide open and never cut back or control the temp.

I bought a safty vavle $139.00. The new one does the same as old one. The pilot lights but the burner don't. I bypassed the old valve and the burner lights so there is gas to the safety valve. Could the thermal coupler not be getting hot enough or could it be the thermostat?

Answer Hi Jeffrey. The oven valve is part # 7501P056-60. The thermal coupler needs to be postioned correctly in the "Standing - Pilot". If the end is not inserted lightly in the pilot then the coupler will not "sense" the correct Cycling oven temperature. This has a pilot that needs to be match lit to get it correctly working. Turn off all top burner valves. Open door and put the oven thermostat in the pilot position. Use a lighter to lite the end of the oven pilot. It may take upwards of 15 seconds to bleed -air out of lines. Once lit, leave the thermostat to the pilot reference and do not turn to - OFF. Once the oven is calling for bake heat, the standing pilot will be cycled to an operating pilot to keep the oven at the correct Temp. Take the burner out physically and clear out the burner holes. Make sure the orifice is clear also. Thank you.

This is an old magic chef rv oven. Thermostat has pilot position to lite pilot which works, then it has "b" position which turns the pilot flame up a little which then activates the thermocouple to send gas to the burner which is lit by the bigger pilot flame. This all works fine. Then I turn the knob down to desired temp., say 400. Then the pilot flame gets smaller which cools the thermocouple which shuts gas to the burner and it goes out, but the oven isnt 400 degrees and even after waiting for it to cool, it wont reignite. Thanks for any info. If I cool the temp sensor which is wired to the oven knob, then the pilot flame will get big again which warms the thermocouple and repeats the process.
