Would a faulty water pump cause the unit to stop, beep and blink an f code, then eventually lock the door with a load of wet clothes inside?
Answer Yes if the water is not pumping out, then the machine thinks it is flooding and shuts off, and locks the door for safety.

Why is there a plastic ball in the drain of a washer
Answer Bruce, The plastic ball in the tub to pump hose on a Whirlpool front load washer acts as a anti syphon device. If there is a drain issue and the drain backs up into the washer the ball will reduce or eliminate the amount of water that backs up into the wash tub. It also helps to reduce the odor from the drain system also called "stack gas".
How do I release the clamp on the drain hose to the pump to replace the pump?

I get a F02 error code and I washed out the drain hose, cleared the pump strainer and replaced the pump, but I still get a F-02 error code. Is there some way to clear this code?
Answer Hello James,
As per the tech sheet: If the drain time exceeds eight minutes, the water valves are turned off and “F/02” is flashed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL two times to clear the display. NOTE: After four minutes the “Sud” error will be displayed, then four minutes later the “F/02” error code will be displayed. Possible Causes / Procedure: 1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. 2. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 3. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running. 4. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects. 5. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 6. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 7. 7. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 8. Replace the pump. If this still does not clear the issue, there is a problem with the programming of the EEPROM and the control 8182695 will have to be replaced.
