Hi. I just went thru all the changing out of the idler pulley, the idler pulley spring, and the best. Lets just say it wasnt easy...so anyways, the new belt has melted in less than two weeks. It may have started before this but today I smelled the burning rubber. I took off the panel and the belt is burned. I did notice that the new idler pulley spring did not hold the idler where it was supposed to and the spring was flimsy. The first time I ran the spin cycle, I had to push the pulley just so it would start to catch the belt. I opted to use the old pulley and it worked like it should. I would prefer to fix this washer if possible. I was wondering if anyone could help me attempt to find the problem. Thanks so much!

Hello, The idler pulley disengages from the drive belt when the washer starts the spin cycle when it should stay engaged. What this means is that the spin cycle does not work. The motor pulley spins like it should in order to spin the tub , but the drive belt just sits there and gets rubbed by the motor pulley until it melts. I can physically see the idler lever switch into a different position -- a position that does not put any tension on the drive belt. The tub and the large pulley spins just fine. I already replaced the belt because it melted. Do you know what causes this? Could it have something to do with the timer? Thanks. Dave

It looks like the idler wheel has slid down on the bushing. Would that cause problems with the agitator and spinning of the tub?
