Replacing the washer idler pulley wheel, do i require the the two washers & jesus clip as shown & do they come with wheel, if not what is the total !
You would only need the washers and e-clip if they are missing off the unit. If they are not on the unit then you will need part numbers 52549 Qty 2, Y504082 qty 1 and 23748 qty 1.
It looks like the idler wheel has slid down on the bushing. Would that cause problems with the agitator and spinning of the tub?
Answer Hello Kevin,
The spin bearing is going out. This is caused by the tub seal starting to leak detergent water into the bearing which washes the lubrication from the bearing and causes it to seize. You see, the spinning of the bearing without lubrication causes heat to build in the bearing. The heat causes the metal to expand and this seizes the bearing. When the bearing seizes and the pulley is unable to turn, the motor pulley burns throgh the belt. This particular style machine requires a complete teardown to restore normal operation. The spin bearing, the outer tub seal, the belt, and the idler should be replaced. It also isn't a bad idea to replace the idler wheel and spring while you're in there to prevent a repeat failure in the near future. The drain pump normally gets replaced also just because it has to come off and it is a difficult part to replace.
Do I need to apply a lubricant to the shaft and bushing when I install this part? If so, what should I use?
Answer Hello Dane,
The pulley is designed to be installed dry since it is impregnated with a dry lubricant that is released with wear on the bushing. If you want to lubricate it, I doubt that it would hurt anything, but I would only use white lithium grease TJ20000030.
What happens when washer idler pulley wheel is bad on maytag?
Answer Hello Steven. If the pulley 40045001 is bad, the pulley may lock down and not turn, or be very noisy. Hope this helps.
