I would like to bypass the water filter housing and connect the two water lines together. What is the part number for the water connector union.

Answer Hello Stephanie, You should be able to do this with a 2300868 John Guess fitting 5/16 to 5/16.

Recently when I removed the water filter from my refrigerator water began spraying out of the water filter housing P/N 2186443 under pressure and flooded my kitchen floor before I got the new filter installed. Is this normal? Must I shut off the main water supply valve first? I do not recall having to shut off the water valve before when I changed out my filter. As I recall, when the filter is removed, only a small amount of water came out of the spent filter. Is'nt there a check valve in the housing assembly that stops water flow when the filter is removed? If so I think maybe I need a new housing.

Answer Hello William, It is not necessary to turn water off when changing filter but is a good idea to do so to avoid a flooding issue. The filter housing 2186443 on your refrigerator would need to be replaced as the check valve inside that is released when you take filter out has gone bad.

I have to replace my water supply hose on my refrigerator. In trying to disconnect hose from the filter housing I managed to break the plastic push fitting. Do I now have to buy a whole new housing, or can I just buy a new fitting? Thank you.

Trying to find out how to replace the water filter housing. Is it done from the rear of the refrigerator? the panel on the front does not allow the old one to come out.

Answer Pete, Once you remove the filter, filter cap, and kick plate grille from the bottom front of the refrigerator, remove the two screws that attach the filter housing to the refrigerator frame. Slide the filter housing out the front of the unit enough to detach the water tubes, and allow wate water is left in the filter or tubes to drain into a small bucket.

I have a side by side fridge which has the kind of water filter you replace by turning the knob a quarter turn, pulling out and replacing. I think during cleaning I turned it once and turned it back by accident. Now when I want to change the filter I cannot move the knob.

Answer Hello Kelti, Open both doors and remove the kick panel. Now remove the decorative filter cover. Now the end of the filter is exposed. If you cannot turn it, you can use a pair of pliers to get the old filter out. To re-install the kick panel, be sure to open both doors. This makes it much easier.

Answer Hello John! The water filter on your model KSRB27FHSS02 is located on the bottom front of the refrigerator. Open the door and remove the front grille on the bottom of the unit, this is the best way to access the filter. Replace the filter with our part number 4396508. Thanks!

I had leaking under the refrigerator in the back of the water filter housing. I ordered the housing from you & replaced it 5/11/12. I replaced the housing, but I still have a slight leak under the refrigerator. The filter was replaced within the last 9 months and the indicator stays green, so it indicates that it is okay. Could the O rings be bad on the filter and need replacing to stop the leaks?

Answer Hello Betty, You are right on the money. They actually had an issue with the filters leaking at the "o" rings. Unfortunately, the "o" rings are not available individually, so the filter will require replacement.

I've had trouble installing the water filter for years. It just doesn't seem to fit without significant pressure to turn it. Once I remove the "used" filter, you can see the locking mechanism at the top of the filter is torn up a bit. Is this an issue with the housing or the wrong filter. The guy at Lowes says there's only one model of filter for the bottom mount 1/4 turn filters. How hard is the replacement of the housing? I'm pretty capable, and would gladly pay to have it done right, but if it's an "easy" fix, I can probably handle it.

Answer Hello Lawrence. The water filter housing 2186443 is not hard to replace. You will need to remove the grille off the bottom and remove the filter from the housing. Then remove the screws securing the housing and disconnect the water lines going to the housing. Now remove the old housing and install the new one.

I bought a used fridge and it leaked out the filter housing, when I tryed to remove it broke, I tryed to remove the 2 hoses in the back of the housing but cant get them off... is there a a way that I am not thinking of??? also can I cut those two lines and connect them hoses together as I don't need a filter?

Answer Hello Ryan. Press in on the plastic fittings of the housing 2186443 and pull the water lines out of the housing. You can use a compression fitting 4373559 to bypass the housing is it is not needed. Hope this helps.
