When spin cycle starts, there is a high pitched squeal. (One of the belts recently broke but it was squealing before. I replaced both belts.) It soulds like a bearing but after the speed builds up, the squeal stops. Is it likely to be a bearing ? Must it be replaced or can it be lubricated ? Or is it a different problem ? The washer is over 30 years old.
Answer Mike,If you haven't yet, you need to check the motor belt idler pulley and assembly, first. That assembly can be cleaned and lubed, if it's not damaged, and it can make an intermittent noise, like you described. Otherwise, you'll need the tub bearing assembly 35746, which is mounted to the bottom of the outer tub. Thanks
