How do I take the agitator off this model? I took off the top where the fabric softener goes. I thought I would find a bolt underneath but all I found was a empty chamber with a long plastic pole.

I am replacing a hub /seal on a Amana LWA50AW. When I replaced the agitator 5 of the teeth broke off so now I need to buy a new agitator. The instructions said to line up the fingers with the large slots on the bell drive which you cannot see so how the do you do this? Then it said to use a sharp blow on top to force it on. So, my concern now, if I pay $50 bucks for a new agitator is there some way to get this back on without breaking any teeth again? Granted the washer is around 20 years old and the teeth may have been brittle but I really want to get the new one on with no issues.

For Amana washer ALW880QAW I understand that the agitator is supposed to just pull off. Well I am trying to remove it with all my might. I do not have the hooks. Is it best to lift in spots opposite one another? One spot only? How do I prevent this from smashing in my face since I am pulling with all my female muscle I can when it dislodges?
