Answer Hello, the agitator 40000501W should pull off. It is on tight so you will have to use some force to remove it. Hope this helps!

Answer Hello John, All you have to do to get it straight is push down while turning a bit. When you feel it drop a hair, knock it down with a bit of force. I never use a hammer as this will damage it. It actually doesn't take that much force. I use my body weight and I weigh 175 lbs. Let us know if we can assist you further.

Answer Coreen, You do have to be careful, that agitator "snaps" down and onto a coupler, that you can't see right now, and you have to "snap" it up off the coupler. You could try using a belt or a piece of rope, a couple of feet long , slip it under the agitator, and use that to pull up and snap the agitator up. Most service personnell have difficulty getting that agitator off, especially on that older unit, so don't feel too bad. Good Luck and Thanks

Answer Hello Kenneth. You will need some agitator hooks TJ254P4P, and you will pull upward to remove the agitator from the machine. Hope this helps.
