The speed control switch on my mixer will not stay in the "off" position. I have to unplug it to stop it. All the speeds seem to work fine except for the "off". Any ideas?

Hi - My wife was using the pro 600 K.Aid 6 qt mixer which is approx 8 yrs old. During the second batch of cookies, smoke came out from under cover hood. She turned off. After letting cool down, mixer would not start. I removed hood cover and checked motor, brushes, transmission etc. All appeared good. No burn marks or electrical burn smell on any individual component. I believe that something on the electronic board failed. There is no power getting to the motor. Nothing on the board is burned, popped or discolored yet I feel this is the problem. The board part number is 9707220. Should I check something else or is this a common problem? The mixer is used quite a bit since purchase. I did not use a volt/ohm meter to check the components on the board - What do you recommend? tks Duke

I have purchased 3 motor control controls in the past 18 months? It does the exact same thing each time where it intermittently will jump from a low speed to full speed? Does this part have a history of failure or am I missing something? Please advise.
