My model has a third (ground wire) connection. I can remove the element the two screws holding the element to the oven, and the two screws to unfasten the wires from the two outside terminals, but the third tiny phillips head screw in the middle of the element bracket holding the ground wire plate won't release and I have begun to strip the screw head. Do I drill the head off to remove the element? How do I install the new element for a ground wire connection?
Answer Hello Jim,
Cut the wire as close to the old element as possible and strip about an inch of insulation from the end of the wire. When installing the element in the bake compartment, place the wire between the bracket and the bake compartment so the wire will be pinched between the two. As long as it makes good contact to the bracket, it will properly ground the unit because the screws will establish contact to the body of the unit. If the wire is long enough, you can wrap the wire around the screw tip after putting it into the bracket.
How do you install. I took 2 screws aloose but not the 3rd in middle, mite not be able to put it back.
Answer First disconnect power to the unit. Remove the screws, and pull the element out just enough to get to the wires on it. Unplug old element and hook up new one. Reinstall screws. Test that the element is working properly.
