The dishwasher is leaking terribly. Husband took apart the door on the inside and is looking to replace one nylon plastic strip. Is this the channel, retainer?
Answer Hello Kaia,
The lower vent barrier 8283179 is not really a water seal. The bottom of the door is an air inlet for the dry cycle so it is just a "barrier" to prevent the water from splashing over. If water is splashing over the air vent in the bottom, look for a separated spray arm, a clogged spray arm, or a missing seal on the water tube up the rear of the unit feeding the middle and top spray arms.
If the barrier (lower vent) is cracked would this cause water to spray out ?
Answer Hello Don,
Yes it is possible for the water to spray out if the lower barrier is broken or cracked. You may also want to check your lower spray arm to make sure that the spray arm is not cracked as this is the most common reason for leaking or water coming out from under door.
