The freezer coils in my Whirlpool fridge MBR1953WES2 keep freezing up. I have located the service manual in the bottom of the fridge and can force defrost the fridge using the FD code. The fridge will continue to operate fine as long as I force defrost the fridge daily, if not the coils will freeze up again. Through the notes here it appears that the control board AP4366538 is fine as I can force defrost the fridge. So is the problem the defrost timer or defrost thermostat? If so, is AP4310486 the part that I need to replace?

Hi-I have a Whirlpool refrigerator as indicated above and the bottom freezer acumulates ice on both the evaporator coil as well as a bit inside the cabinet. Someone had previously replaced the bimetal defrost due to the same problem. My question (s) are, what generally causes the freezing on the evaporator, since I checked continuity on the defrost heater and it shows that it is good (continuity, low ohms reading)? Should the bimetal defrost t'stat show normally open or closed when exposed to higher temps, and does this initiate the defrost cycle when it opens or closes? Also, since someone else repaired the refrigerator before me, I found no clip on the bimetal t'stat, therefore it was not coming in direct contact with the evap coil. What is the exact location the new bimetal t'stat should be when I replace it? I am actually a plumbing/HVAC contractor with extensive diagnostic experience in the field, but just a bit rusty on the nuances of refrigerators. Any and all complete comprehensive replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
