I have a Whirpool Duet dryer running on LP that throws an orange flame and the cuts off the flame after about 3 seconds, it repeats this process every 15 or so seconds but won't stay on. The flame looks too big and I think it should be a blue flame? Not sure what parts I need to purchase to repair. Thanks.
Answer Hello John,
The first question that has to be answered is: Has the unit ever been converted to LP. These units come from the factory set up for natural gas. The issue you are describing sounds like the unit is hooked up to LP but is still set up for natural gas. If the unit has never been changed over, you will need to order the conversion kit W10606694A. If it has been changed over, the gas valve probably has an issue.
Note: This question is for the older version of this part, but we thought you might still find it helpful
Odor of gas at vent outlet. Gas company says it is" uncombustible gas" Service tech says flame is too small and it needs new burner for $200.00 plus labor.
I vacumed the inside of dryer and tapped the valve with head of screwdriver.....I see blue flame that fills the 'tube' Could it have been a sticky valve?
What do you think???
You will want to check to make sure that the venting from the outside of your home to the blower wheel is clean. If so then you will want to also check the burner to make sure that there is no rust and check to make sure that the ports are clear.
